LAZY_HOMO

Ok seriously though, lets discuss it. Do you think people
are born gay or its a choice? Thats the main question at
hand here.

Personally I think its not a choice and you are born that
way, but I also think there are A LOT of people who choose
to be gay because they need to feel part of a culture or
they are just downright confused.

it's probably a combination.

But then couldn't you say everyone is born Bisexual and we
all just choose to screw guys or girls?

is what I think, I mean.

you know, just like personalities are probably formed partly
by genetics and by social circumstance.

I guess I think things like these are too complex to do away
with a handy template like you mention there.

I don't think people are born that way in every case. Sure
some are born with more of a certain chemical than another,
but allot of sexual orientation/frustration/confusion is
created throughout childhood experiences and upbringing. If
you wanna get freudian on the subject, there is quite allot
of cases where single mothers raise their boys without
fathers and they become sexually confused without that
natural direction of a male figure.

I have to run soon but you bring up a good point. Is gayness
a part of personalities, AND are personalities mostly
genetic or a result of surroundings? If its both, is it a
50/50 split?

if you didn't have questions about your own sexuality you
wouldnt've brought up the topic. you are a typical closet
homosexual, who is desperate for acceptance. why don't you
just admit it? what are you scared of?

?

No i'm pretty sure I'm straight. I ask because of the link
to the article. Pretty soon right-wingers everywhere will
declare homo as a choice and bad stuff will happen.

I'm discussing it to see if everyone thinks its not a choice
or what... I dont know for sure, I'm not gay so I cant say,
only speculate and deduce answers from knowledge I get.

Do you go up to scientists studying this and ask the same
thing you asked me or what?

consideration, you`re losing most of their profile.

Let's answer the question of gayness here, on XLT. The fact
it's been around since the dawn of time means, I'm sure,
people 1000s of years ago did it just to fit in with
whatever was hip at the time.

why would you have to be gay to answer this question?

surely if gayness is a choice, then heterosexuality is too.

you're "pretty sure". i guess you're unsure then. don't
worry about it, most men your age go through that kind of
questioning, but if you are gay, then i guess admiting it on
a message board is the first step to acceptance. good luck.

Yeah, I'd have to guess it's a combination too. One larger
part cultural (imitated, memetic & misfiring behavior) and
another part genetic. However I suspect that the extreme
minority is genetic, given that by definition few offspring
should inherit it (unless one gay guy somewhere thought it
would be humorous to deposit all his sperm at sperm banks
(we're still investigating qrter about this)). I wonder how
large a role prisons play given the minority if any women
and the predisposition towards rape and being stupid (which
would cause misfiring behavior) in it's members. "sexual
dimorphism" is the biological term for the differing
characteristics between two sexes of one species.
Orangatangs are quite different for example. Normally, as
hunter and gatherers, human males would be immediately
recognizable as such because they'd all have beards, but
most shave today. In addition we all wear clothes. Maybe all
gayness is just one ill side effect of the odd habit we have
of covering our bodies with clothes, thus increasing
"misfiring behavior".

bisexuals mary women all the time. it's common place. in the
end you have to make a choice, big deal. nobody really
cares, why should they? i know 2 people who have married
women then decided they are gay and got divorced. really
though, who cares? i fucking well don't.

does it make a difference if you are gay or straight? to be
honest, i think in america (and i must state here i could be
completely wrong) being gay is far more accepted in modern
culture.

what i loath is lazy homophobia. and i must state again that
i am not accusing you of that. if i didn't know you better i
would say you are bringing up a valid point. but i do, do i
don't.

What about furries? Is that nature or nurture? Is there a
gene for the desire to watch giant green pregnant lesbian
horses making sweet love?

Also, I must again stress one of the main concerns I have
with mankind; the halting of natural selection upon
ourselves. Genes constantly mutate, the extremem minority of
which happen to aid survival. So our species genepool is
mutating like usual only nothing is getting selected out.
All kinds of odd recessive genes eventually get combined
with another, and all kinds of people with ill genetic
problems are nevertheless capable of surviving to reproduce
these genetic problems. This is one of those glacial things
humans can't get a grip on because it happens on a scale
larger than our normal lives. Maybe homosexuality is somehow
tied up in this.

I think it is nature, there are people who are naturally
gay. I can think back to school and there were obviously gay
kids as part of their personality. I see it as a parent
watching kids and the way they act together. Being gay is
not a bad thing at all and it would not upset meif my son
decided he was gay.

Personally I think the main stereotype gay behavior
(pronouncing 's' as 'th' etc) are 100% cultural
(non-genetic). I think it evolved as an identifiable way for
other gays to recognize eachother.

disagree. people were "naturally" camp, but it's just
acceptance in an undercurrent seuxal way because they can't
be accepted normally. school is no judge of anyone.

you may have a genetic predisposition to be attracted to the
same gender, but this will only arise when in certain social
circumstances, and as we live in a world of compulsive
heterosexuality, where heterosexuality is considered the
norm, fewer people grow up (or are brought up) to be
homosexual.

If everyone was gay we wouldn't have this problem with over
crowding!

not because they are gay or straight.

I worry that facists and such will decree homosexuallity is
a choice and decree that it is a 'bad choice' and force a
majority of people to look down on gays the same way Hitler
did with Jews.

The point is: How can a gay person prove to a non-gay person
that homosexuality isn't a choice?

If they cant, gays everywhere are in a heap of trouble.

Maybe years ago, but if we could prove that its not a choice
then you dont think the facists would back off?

Right now hard core christians are all:

"We pretend act like jesus, but we think that homos are
making a bad choice and they will goto hell if they dont
change"

and then scientists are all like:

"They can't change because your god made them that
way, stupids"

Then christians go:

"oh poo, i guess we cant throw them in jail for being gay"

the whole idea behind Hitlers fascism was about the better

Is fascism a choice or is it genetic? Because if it's
genetic we can easily devise a screening test and remove
them from the gene pool.

some of my best friends are genetic.

anyway, I still stand by what I said earlier - this matter
is much too complex to think up an easy template.

genetics and social circumstance are just two elements
(although social circumstance itself consists of numerous
elements) - how many life-directing elements does a person
come into touch with besides those? I would say there are
too many things coming into play to make any predictions.

as for trying to use such knowledge to counter extremists -
they are extremists. logic pretty much doesn't work all that
well, sadly.
