is aphex your favourite musician?

still?
was he ever?

in the aphex.nu days 99% of us proclaimed him as our fav
musician
then in the early days of xlt (2002,2003) he always won the
idm championship so it was clear he was our favourite still

but with time this has changed.... seems like people are
getting to know more and more music... and aphex hasnt
released much in the past 5 years

but now he released analords... did this change your mind?
for good or bad?
is he your fav again?
how has analord changed your opinion on his music?

tridenti, not that I can choose the direction that this
thread will take... but in its begining I just wanted some
music talking... not too serious, but not an a/s/l chat

He has never been my favorite to be honest. I always
prefered listening to the likes of Squarepusher, BoC,
Autechre, Plaid etc...

who's that sad?

Interesting topic..

For me RDJ has always been the daddy. He drew me into the
genre and is the only one that may spit me back out.

Despite listening to loads more music since Aphex, I really
haven't found an artist (other than Ae) to be as consistent
in quality, both technically and emotionally.

For me Aphex has it because I think he is music is full of
emotion and often innovation. Analord is a breath of fresh
air, more so than Untilted, and I personally revisit Analord
more often. But that extends with all of Aphex's stuff (Anal
isnt even my fav of his).

I honestly believe RDJ is a musical genius. And since
listening to Analord I have noticed how much body many other
songs in the same genre lack.

The annoying thing is, we all know Aphex has the talent to
obliterate everything out there, but his recent releases
have been kind of half arsed. I just know he's got shitloads
of amazing stuff lying around which will never be released.

i'll always have respect for him, but i don't think i would
consider him my favourite anymore... i listen to aphex
pretty rarely at this point, although when i do it feels
like such an easy thing to do... like visiting a good friend
who you haven't seen in a long time... i'm not really sure
who my favourite would be anymore, there's too many
different things to appreciate about music..

yeah, Ol' Richie is still my favorite.

He's still the only thing I can create my artwork
effeciently to.

I just wish he'd get re-inspired and release albums like
ICBYD and RDJ album again.

favorite, maybe he once at the top of the list, but now I
dont really have anyone at the top anymore. Analord is
great.

Good question, always current. I got to know him early (as
for me), around 1997, when my mate introduced me to "Come to
daddy". I was quite shocked then, I remember my friend being
quite into his music, buying all the available records, but
I was not convinced. After "RDJ Album" things changed, but I
still do not consider him as my favourite musician in
general. However, he`s my favourite artist when it comes to
the "new" electronica.

he once was... now? nah, but then again his music is as
it´s always been - the tracks that are good are larger than
life and the others are just crap - the ratio has changed
though - in 92-97 most tracks were great, nowadays 3 among
10 are....

Yeah, he did Windowlicker. Probably the greatest electronic
song of all time. He could shit hundreds of these out and
put everyone out of commission.

a few years ago i would have rated him somewhere in my top
5, but currently hes not even in my top 10. well maybe
somewhere towards the bottom, but i havent listen to
anything of the twin's other than that druqks mix by think
toy, which is partly due to the fact that i lost 25 gb of
music, including all my twin, autechre, boc, sqp..... im
left with only the music i downloaded in the last like 3
months, which is pretty interesting.
