Say what?

I was assuming you just connected to Soulseek. It's what
I've been doing.

That's normal for Soulseek. It's crap for searching. Just go
into the aphextwin.nu room and right click on the userlist.
Search in there. Or politely ask if anyone is sharing what
you're looking for.

so what's with the warning that many users will ban you if
you cue up a bunch of downloads?

if you go and queue up, say, someone's entire richard d.
james folder, they may be like 'fuck off' and ban you from
downloading. on soulseek you download from one person, it's
not like it pulls the file from different people that have
it. so there can be queues and what not, it is rude to take
up all of someone's download slots with that many files.
typically, 1 or 2 albums at a time is fine.

others people will ban you if you won't sharing.

so if you cue shit up, other people are put after your cue?
or does the cue work on their end?

you can look at your own transfers screen to get an idea.
the top window is stuff you're downloading. the bottom
window is people uploading from you. it creates a list as
more files are requested. the people at the top of the list
are first, to the bottom, last. you could let everyone
upload from you simultaneously, by just increasing the max
number of U/L users, but that might make it slow for
everyone. i usually allow 2 people at a time, so if there
are more peopl, they will have to wait

It works off of a first come first serve basis, so if you
download 100 files off of someone, then the next user has to
wait for all your downloads to complete before they can go.
What generally ends up happening, is somebody with a really
slow transfer rate ends up cueing 3 or 4 albums, and the
person they are getting it from ends up generating a qlist
of about a thousand people. Then things stay messy for a
long time. At one time I used to have at least 400 files in
my q at any given time, untill I unsared all my good files
and only left about 50 half-rate albums shared (well, not
half rate, but most people won't go out of their way to
download phillip glass, grand theft auto or the gummo
soundtrack).
