AE : Untilted Tour = Boring?

So ummmm.... I've now listened to all of the sets
circulating and saw AE in LA. I had a absolutely great time
and most of these sets sound excellent. BUT, the one topic
of conversation that comes up about all of this, is the
one-long-ass-track-approach v.s. the several
tracks-noodling-variable-tempos-approach. Obviously the
former is indicative of the Untilted tour and is very
successful at putting the audience " purely in the moment"
or in the context through which this album was written.

Ok.

But fuck, without these recordings I probably couldnt
remember anything from the show aside from the semi-familiar
Untilted snippets and that there were beats constantly going
at 160+ BPM the whole time... And don't get me wrong, while
I was there I really enjoyed the show (perhaps thats just
the veil of anticipation?). Though when I listen to these
sets now, I have to say, its equal parts intriguing and
well, dare I say, BORING as shit.

Now think of this:

If I (we?) are getting bored during one set, fucking Rob and
Sean most be dull out of their pants by now, right?

So in conclusion:

Hopefully Rob and Sean will take a nice rest, reflect,
noodle a bit, and come up with an album that is worthy of a
more exciting and re-memborable live experience.

Thanks for the tour guys! Now go back to the shire and bang
Mira Calix and while you're at it, fire Alex Rutterford.

that is probably why they only perform live when they
release an album every four years or so :D

Nah they are at the top of their game as usual man. None of
the live content was boring in my opinion. That shit was
banging phat the entire time and, like you said, they did
not let up. Just unbelievably cool shit one thing after the
other.

Saying that untilted, or the tour was not worthy? Just, no.
The stuff they are doing now is TOP. I hope we get some new
stuff as soon as later this year or early '06, and I can't
wait for the next tour.

But yeah, man, with all due respect, you are speaking for
yourself when you say you are getting bored.

See now I'm thinking Autechre needs to be working on 2
albums at a time - release one, and tour off of wanking
around with the second one live, rather than sound like they
are rewritting the most recent album (the first one) in real
time right there....

Release Album 'A' then go on tour and only play material
from 'B'
Release Album 'B' then go on tour and only play material
from 'C'
and so on and so on.

That's what they did for the Coachella 99 set. They opened
with Pen Expers and then didnt release the track for another
2 years.

Hi, my name's G0tch, you'll remember me from over a hundred
threads where I banged on about "Untilted" not being very
good. I had a rest for a bit and now I'm banging on about
"Untilted - Live" not being very good. Maybe I should listen
to some other music, but I just listen to music I don't
like, like "Untilted". Which isn't any good. I will now
follow this up by saying that I never said "Untilted" wasn't
any good, I was just saying that it wasn't very good.

didn't get properly released until 4 years later! 100 bucks
says these niggas could release another ace record tomorrow
if they wanted too.

Hi G0tch, my name is gl0tch. One day I will be a moderator
too, and a prick while I am at it just like you, and in
doing so I will thoroughly disgust those people here who
actually post regularly and have something worthwhile to
say.

But you wouldn't know that because you don't actually read
the posts.
You're to busy flexing, FAG.

I think the sets were great and it was really good to see
them live. I do think that they could do with a bit of
"performance" ie something to look at. The darkness is very
moody and sets the tone but after a while it gets boring.
They could do with a Bez who can dance on the stage, perhaps
a robot Bez!!

its about the music to them, its not a Motley Crue stage
show

heres how it works:
a)take stage
b)dont talk to the crowd
c)play music
d)leave stage
e)you want more, go see Van Halen or something.

yeah, i think that was the idea behind the whole playing in
darkness thing, but really....it could have been a lot more
interesting. if i wasnt so wasted, i'd have prolly hated it.

hi, my name is gl0tch, and after having heard several Ae
live sets, I beg on my bare knees for more sets of them. I
need to listen to at least six of them to find out I think
they are boring. And when another recording is out there,
I'll probably start begging again to download it and find it
boring afterwards.

All the stuff from Chiastic Slide onwards requires repeated
listenings to fully understand, which is why AE live is
frustrating. I saw them on the Confield tour and yeah, the
only thing I remember is it was good and Confield-y.

As for listening to a bunch of live sets you've downloaded,
hey, even quality is boring in sufficient quantity. You CAN
and WILL get bored of sex if you overdo it. The fact that
they're able to reassemble their tracks in realtime into
forms that are almost more awesome than the releases is
fucking amazing and wonderful whether you only listen to it
a bit and get floored or if you listen to it way too much
and get bored.

Agreed.

And it seems some of you only see what you want to see... If
I recall I do remember opening this up by saying I thought
the sets were excellent and I had a fantastic time at the LA
show. It's just that as good as it was, it dragged on
further than it needed to. If you could blindly cut the set
up into 15 second snippets and basically rearrange it in a
random order, you wouldn't necessarily know which placement
in the set you found yourself in, aside from maybe those
familiar Untilted moments.

Why? Because the set (though intriguing AS I HAVE MENTIONED
FROM THE BEGINNING) did little to develop over time. Maybe
that's the point, but my criticisms lie in asking whether
this was the best mode of presentation. Whatever.

I mean, shit, Pitchfork said they liked the show. Now
that's saying something.

Oh and btw, my name is Morgorth. I like to exaggerate
facts in a pathetic attempt to try to emulate other "online
entities" because I lack the creativity, or maturity, to
present my own ideas or respectively keep them to myself.
