A thumping barrage of click-breaks began the set, and the
dancing immediately ceased. This made absolutely no sense at
all, as Autechre's live show was entirely more accessible
and, yes, more ass-shaking than any of their recorded
work.
The stuttering ambience and formlessness that both
plagues and enhances their albums was present but bolstered
by bass you could feel in your genitals and drum hits that
shook the chandeliers. At times aggressive, abrasive,
industrial, metallic, and grating, Autechre blended songs
together like a DJ mixing records. And occasionally the
music veered into bubbling dark dub with acid bubbles, soft
spots in the midst of jagged sine waves.
