i have 40gb of stuff, half i've ripped from cd's, half d/l.
given up on the download tip now, the novelty of broadband
has worn off.

Not so much. Maybe 20 - 30gb, tops.

When I do the cut it's all from my own collection. None of
that stuff is on the station's servers..

good stuff. i'd have imagined you as being one of those
people who likes to listen to and own the 'whole product';
this kinda startles me.

ps denniscpearce encode those flacs to ogg or mp3 you twit.
there's no difference between 256kbit mp3/192kbit ogg and a
fucking 10MB per minute piece of shit flac.

the amount of space you're wasting is disgusting. and don't
write back and say "i can hear the difference between mp3
and flac" because if you encode it properly, at the right
bitrate, there is no difference.

hey guy i have them all as ogg.
fuck you , i can transcode my lossless flacs to any
quality/type lossy format overnight, without reripping 350
cds.
i CANT hear the diff between 256kbps+ mp3 or 193kbps+ ogg
and my flacs, but fuck you.
i have explained FAR too many times why i rip to flac, i
dont need you to lecture me, and im not going to explain the
whole thing to you agian.
i can dig up an old thread if you really need to read it.

btw, the flac i happen to be listening to now is 900kbps.
so like 3.5 times the bitrate of a suitable mp3.
so basically if i were to have crappy mp3s, that i wouldnt
feel good about going mp3->other format (i dont give a shit
, any lossy to any lossy sucks it) i would still have like
20gb of files instead of 66, so yeah my 'waste of space' is
really 'disgusting'
we are talking about less then 50 dollars worth of hd space
to store flacs which too me hours and hours to rip (eac
secure so its not blazingly fast)
whats your problem?

i can spend on two cds! and you are all 'your waste of space
is disgusting'
you are crazy

oh another thing.
when i want to give a friend a copy of a cd i have.
it takes me 10 seconds to drag the cue sheet into nero and
burn a practically identicle copy of the original cd (asides
from a few frames of writer offset, although my read offset
has been corrected).
if i had lossy files i would either have to burn from those
(which is fucking lame, i dont care if you cant hear the
diff) or re rip the cd.
wtf

give me one counter argument to the points i have laid out.

because 256kbit mp3 or ogg (which is well over doing it, 192
is just fine) is perfect.

What's bullshit is if you say that you can hear the
difference between a 256kbit mp3/ogg and a flac. I don't
believe that for a second. What, you think you'll get kudos
for having GREAT EARS or something? Bullshit.

About 200gb approximately, though they're not all on my

and like that is what your arguement is based on?
something that you misread, that i didnt even say?
isnt it interesting that i lay out some points to try and
show you that what i am doing is actually logical and makes
sense.
and you just ignore them all and restate your contention
that i am an idiot for doing it.
whatever, its obvious to me and to anyone else that see this
who understands the basics here, that your the one that is
being idiotic.

yeah i noticed that bit, i CANT hear the diff between
256kbps+ mp3 or 193kbps+
ogg and my flacs, but fuck you.

the "i can't hear the difference but fuck you"
argument was just too solid so i felt i should just steer
clear of it. didn't want to back myself into a corner.

And sorry for winding you up earlier by not responding quick
enough, my favourite episode of the golden girls is on at

tell me to fuck myself again, so just hang in there.

yeah i know, thats a good point. like in general a well
encoded 192kbps+ mp3 doesnt sound bad but often is
can be distinguished from the original if its somehting like
boc/the new ae.
i would although say that getting up past 256kbps mp3 (new
lame encoded) it becomes increasingly difficult to
distinguish.
all this being said, one has to be using very decent
headphones/speakers

he will call you an idiot, call you a twit, and tell youthat

then if you try and explain yourself, he will misread your

generally ignore your points compleatly.
