ive been composing and producing music for a real long time on my one laptop, but soon im returning home (at college) and want to set up a studio with a second esktop i have.
so whats the best way to hook up the two up?
should i buy an external bmp monitor and connect them both to that? or is there some usb/ethernet/whatever interface i dont know about.
and btw i use fruity loops as if it were a 6ths limb and can make my way around cubase and sonar.

actually you'd probably be better off just having two monitors on the laptop.

yeah, thats what i meant by bmp monitor. so is this the best option? cuz id prefer the two to be somehow linked through software as well.

There is a software I use called MidioverLan which emulates a midi connection over your computers LAN connection. Use it. You'll save alot of money.

Just get a more powerfull desktop with two monitors. Thats what I got. Ideas of using a two computer setup kind of evaporated when I did this...

Using 2 computers can be very nice. The best way to do it is split up the work load so that you actually use both equally.
If you are using FLstudio I don't think you need 2 computers. I mean ... why would you? Isn't FLstudio an all in one studio? If you want to over complicate your workspace, you should find a system that will relie on the use of 2 simulanious computers.
Use the laptop to make tunes when you shit or something. Use it as your "When I'm sick of being in my stupid fucking bedroom I like to make tunes at the park" or something.
But I don't make electronic music so I wouldn't know anything ...

I don't know... there is probly a latency benefit, but with my setup, my computer operates at a very low latency. Its practically non-existant on my computer.
Another way of reducing latency is to save all your soundfiles on one hard drive, and have your audio processing tools on another hard drive. You don't need much drive space to hold plugins, and you can share that drive with files for long term storage, so it doesn't get fragmented as quickly.
Also getting more ram is a way to enhance your processing power, so you can have more effects/softsynths running at the same time. Of course, that is pretty much common knowledge.
