It's not sad or tragic. It's a fucking relief that he won't
be blighting the original trilogy anymore. Unless in 20
years he decides to super special edition the lot...

I'm not sure, I haven't seen a formal release date for it.

Kinda odd though. Has there been a series of
anything that's been tweaked as much as the Star
Wars epic? There's got to've been 20 different versions
over the years.

and now the bastard won't even do episodes 7 to 9, which
would be about a million times more interesting than 1 to
3.

I hope someone else picks up the story now, and Lucas moves
on to something else.

He's laid a pretty interesting foundation for this imaginary
universe. If someone with some talent decides to develop it
further it could be good. I thought the clone wars animated
series was quite nice.

I didn't see that (except a few episodes in the beginning),
so I didn't get the idea that general Grievous is partly
robot - I thought he was completely robot, before the whole
thing with the exposed heart.

which made me go "..why the hell would a robot be
coughing..? I mean, I like a grimey future like the next
man, but still.."

Mace crushed grievous' chest with the force at the end of
the animated series. That's why he was wheezy.

Something that would never be explained if you hadn't seen
the cartoons. Also, the scar on Anakin's face is someone
touched upon in the series.

One of the main problem with the films is that lucas didn't
really introduce any characters that you actually care about
in the prequels. The main cause for Anakin's fall is his
overriding love for Padme, but their relationship is hollow
because Lucas isn't capable of directing believable drama.
That makes for some serious holes in the plot. I mean, why
the fuck would Padme fall for Ani? He didn't really seem
like a likable guy... I mean, sure he was a powerfull Jedi,
but his personality was pretty snotty and their whole
relationship didn't progress naturally.

Someone else could develop that relationship in a side
project and I think it'd lend some believability to the
films that alread do exist.

all)

that is one of the big problems with this trilogy - while
watching Episode III I constantly was thinking things like
"wait.. who is fighting what..? they're fighting droids..?
and why are they fighting an army of droids again? and where
did this general Grievous droid come from?"

you didn't have any of that crap when watching the Real
Trilogy.

offline epohs from )C: on 2005-05-22 20:27 [#01608937]

Also, unless I missed something, the whole battle between
the Sith and the Jedi is never explained satisfactorilly.

Darth Maul said in the first that, "at last the Sith would
have their revenge".. and this latest flick was titled
Revenge of the Sith.. but, what exactly were they
getting revenge for? Lucas could've spent five minutes
explaining this crucial undrriding grudge in any of the six
films, but to my knowledge he never even touched on it.

There could be an entire film, or animated series, or
whatever dedicated just to that, and if it were done
properly it could be awesome.

You're right. There was something definately different
about Lucas' storytelling ability in the original trilogy.
I mean, he was able to introduce characters like Lando.. a
somewhat minor, but important character who did really
shitty things, but eventually redeemed themselves, and so
you ened up caring about them.

I never cared about Padme, Qui Gon, Jar Jar, Mace, or any of
the new characters who supposedly played very important
roles in the prequels.

very good example! you also knew who they were fighting and,
basically, there was something to fight for.

on a sidenote - didn't you just love that line at the ending
when Yoda says to Obi-Wan "oh yeah, forgot about this, but
Qui Gon isn't really dead-dead, I'll teach you how to
contact him..".

Fox news just had a quick blurp on Episode 3 being pirated.
They were saying "Watch out for the Episode 3 bootleg
on the internet because they're all in Chinese and the
subtitles are from the wrong movie. Must be a blow to all
those bootleggers. Up next, can low fat food still make you
fat? That and more after a the break."

from IMdb:

"Revenge of the Sith' Leaked Online

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith has been leaked
online on the same day as the blockbuster movie opened at
cinemas around the world. A "work print" of the sci-fi film
was circulated yesterday on an internet file-sharing network
where more than 16,000 people began downloading it. An early
version of Revenge Of The Sith, before final post-production
work had taken place, the pirated copy contains a time code.
Director George Lucas' company Lucasfilm declined to comment
on the security breach. Following yesterday's international
release, Revenge Of The Sith now holds the record for the
widest simultaneous film release of all time."

George Lucas: Hmm, accidently, despite the fact I can't
direct I have employed great actors, special effects guys,
editors, designers... wow, out of the codswallop I wrote
they have manged to make it really good... hmm, what if I
wait untiul it's all computers, get some nerds in that have
even less of a clue than me and then let them fuck it up...
oh yes.... "Yes, the Sith need their revenge because of...
oh, fan fiction, probably".

this weekend i watched the last 3 episodes again, with focus
on Vader. a totally different experience from the first 3
episodes. he's more of a lost human being for me now.

IV,V,VI >>>> I,II,III with no doubt. Lucas lost the spirit.
the force left him obviously.
