So what happens when you walk into a shop to buy a brand new cd, and then it ends up being Chinese meditiation Yoga music? WELL?

It all could be sorted out through numbers... Shops could have a few avaiable computers, or searching devices in which you type your artist, or album... And then it gives you the number...
It could be really simple.

Hmmm.
I like doing random buys. 9 times out of 10, they are crap...but when you stumble across a gem, it's an amazing feeling.

yeah... i totally agree with you.
Let's say that when you type in an artist (in that searching device)...
It could give you alternatives. Other artists that the device recommands you. Now that would be cooL. :)
But we're used to the way record shops are organized... So a change would be too much to take for most people.

Nice idea I guess. I do think the way music is put into genres and sub genres today is ridiculous.

It indeed is quite ridiculous... :) some records don't belong in any genres... It is especially harder to class with electro....

all you need to know about genres is yes they are used as a marketing tool. but yes they do help assocation when making purchases, and yes they help in conversation to help make music relative for the uninitiated.

we need lenguage and categories to be able to talk and comunicate the abstract and unitary reality... its simplification and artificial, but its necessary for living and existing...
