i fear it died again, after just a few months, that's the
second one in 9 months what a piece of shit stuff,
What's the best, affordable harddisk?
maybe it's from all the warez, maybe it's because of my
motherboard which didnt give any trouble except to the
previous owner
eat shit and die,
big

ok ill look into that
first windows quite a few times, then the startup said
something about a bad driver, then restarting and failing
and turning the compu off made the hd make a terrible sound,
just the toink sound it usually makes but more loud and
hollow

i've only ever had trouble with a western digital, all my
maxtors are fine, after 6 years of savage mp3age. WD one
died after less than a year.

guess it's all a gamble. set up a raid array :)

hehe, when i have an ace hd ill stop backing up and then
itll crash in 3 years or so, this has to be taken into
consideration

i never didnt loose a hd:
imac: failed to start up from the disk
shit pc: hd literaly went up in smoke, which was kinda cool
to see actually
two maxtors, this means i still have one hd from which i now
cant start up :(

My brother bought a new Maxtor HD and after a month it died
too, I'm starting to see a patern, I have a Seagate
Barracuda and it works great for over a year now. Western
Digital are known to be crap.

Ya know what, I'm starting to think it depends where you
live or something - if you buy Western Digital in Montreal,
it came from Wun Hung Lo province, and if you buy it in
Ireland it came from a different factory in Wun Sung Hi
province. Wherever it's cheaper to ship from. Or something.

Anyone that goes upon brand name "sounds" is a fucking
little bitch that jacks off to the status quo and shops at
places like Hot Topic
The WD Raptor is the best HDD around
Do some fucking research
"Could it be the warez" uhhhh gee I don't know
"The motherboard gave the last owner problems" well there
you go
I've got 2 WD's and a Quantum.... which is now owned by
Maxtor.
No problems

problem with it.

worst sound a HD can make is a rrrrrrrr-sound. or a regular
tack-tack-tack sound.

any regular sound isn't good.

things like "pwned!!" and "rofl!! u r my b1tch n0w!!"

Storage Review.com

Lots of actual data on reliability. Seagate is good.

an absolute fuckload of PC problems come from people using
shitty power supplies. the majority of the cases out there,
especially wanky ones, have awful power supplies.

it can cause things such as equipment, particulary hard
drives dying, random reboots, the system never coming up
properly every time, etc (not nessecarily all of these)

sure this isn't the issue? yes, getting a different hard
drive may solve the problem, but this likely may be because
it draws less power or something.

That;s interesting, do you have anything I can look at to
study up on this?

personal experience. i come across it _all_ the time, it's
a hell of a lot more common than most people think.

Why does that happen? I don't understand unless your power
supply is surging or cutting in and out or something?

Hm, how often would random reboots happen if I had a bad
power supply? I get that once ever couple of months or so...
maybe that's just Windows being crappy though. I had another
unrelated weird problem in Windows 2000 where closing
Mozilla with a Java applet in the browser would reboot the
system occasionally.

Uh yeah
I could've
When did I type "pwned" or any of that shit
Don't tell me what to do
I based it upon the comment of "buying products because of
how their name(s) sound"
Now if that's not the stupidest fucking thing I've ever
heard
I don't know what is
If you applied that formula.... probably 3/4+ of all tech
companies would go under and people would end up with actual
shit
Just a guess
...
As far as PSU's go, I wouldn't buy anything else but Antec /
Antec TruePower
The PSU and system RAM are two of the most overlooked
components to go quality for
Thank you drive through

Your best bet is nabbing a Western Digital or a Seagate HD
from one of your local electronic store chains, since after
their rebates it'll be cheaper than ordering one online,
from say newegg.

the hard drive I am currently using was out of service for a
year
then I put it in and turned my laptop on it's side, plugged
in an external monitor/keyboard/mouse and it works!
curse you gravity, sucking the head into the platter
