thats pretty cool, altho im sure better in person. i dig the
whole "simple bold outlines etc" genre. by the second ray
thing, is that a chair behind it? or is the canvas round
like that?

blechie: supposed to be representative of my college. we're
going bankrupt, and the idea is that if you cut the head
off, the body will still grow. kinda abstract, but what
isn't these days?

hedphuk: definitely better in person. that behind it is
actually a Bb euphonium holding it up.

word. its disorienting at that angle, because it looks as if
the chopped off end of the worm is colliding with the lines,
and therefore, visually unsettling. but it looks well
painted as far as cleanliness and whatnot, good job.

about bringing them to an art gallery to sell them?

really enjoyed doing this one, and i will continue with this
style for a bit. i'm actually showing some work this summer,
hopefully some will be sold. i think this is the best i've
done so far.

yes, it is quite conceptual, and while this was pretty easy
for me to create, it was time consuming. patience is a skill
i am developing.

what a fucking lousy comment.

if you didnt know the meaning behind this painting you would
never call it conceptual.

and what is skillful according to you? i think it is
skillfully painted. very clean shapes, nice contrasting
colours. maybe the purpose of the image is to look like
this, and not like a davinci painting?

it wasn't an offensive comment. unless you're insecure about
your art and feel the need to get offended, then go right
ahead.

critisism is important when it comes to art.

and meaning is part of the concept.

offline corrupted-girl on 2005-04-29 12:15 [#01580412]
Points: 8469 Status: Regular | Followup to J198: #01580092

and obviously the purpose of the painting is to look like
that.. part of the concept. i'm just saying that it isn't
very hard to make.. i'm pretty sure most capable people
could make that painting. which is fine... it just makes it
more conceptual rather than skillful.

and in the art industry concept is easy to come by where as
skill isn't as much.

it's not a lousy comment. if you can't take constructive
critisism , how do you expect to improve? (not directed at
anyone)

"unless you're insecure about
your art and feel the need to get offended, then go right
ahead." something like this can only come from a girl. no
offense.

anyway,

how is your criticism in ANY way constructive? you post it
merely as some kind of observation. an opinion. you say
nothing about what you think would make it a better
painting.

also, that 'anybody capable could make that' stuff is such
bullshit. do you see many paintings like these? if anybody
could, then why aren't there millions of paintings like
this?

are you the type of person that looks at a mondriaan
painting and says 'it's just 2 crossing lines. i could do
that' ? well here's what it's really about:

mondriaan did it and you didn't. no matter how simple a
concept can be, no matter how simple to execute, you have to
be confident enough to actually make what you have in mind.

your 'criticism' shows that you don't really have a clue
what painting or 'art' in general is about.

"it just makes it
more conceptual rather than skillful. "

wow do you feel really smart when saying this or what?

did you write your own little rulebook for art in which you
state that any work of art should always be equally
conceptual and skillful?

i'd be interested to see you comment on my last paintings.

you need to chill man.

it was just a comment. an opinion.. it's just as valid as
your opinions. so relax.

not everyone is intended to love this guy's painting. no
need to get so defensive.

I really like it, the composition is quite unsettling. The
graphical rule of "Z" composition is missing the top line of
the "Z". Nice work if I owned it I would have to paint a
line at the top of the canvas to complete the "Z"

corrupted-girl: i didn't take offense to your initial
statement at all, but i wish you had embellished a bit more
to begin with. you make many vaild points, as does j198. i
appreciate the fact that you looked, that's all i wanted.

j198: i can understand your response, and of course positive
and negative statements are required for criticism. look how
interesting this thread is now!

010101: i haven't heard of the rule of z before, although as
a concept i can grasp a breif understanding of it based on
your statement.
