Anybody who can't find the family guy funny needs to grow a
sence of humor.

family guy is funny if you are able to look past the obvious
simpsons similarities, and at times that can be a
struggle...

"family guy" is like a 5-year-old boy trying his very best
to get all the attention by trying to be FUNNY ALL THE
TIME.

I don't know, it always feels like it's so forcedly, so
self-consciously trying to be funny.

and then it isn't. which is then even sadder.

I prefer it to the latest Simpsons episodes. Early simpsons
is unbeatable but the new stuff is shite. Futurama was so
much better.

thanks for this link.

i really don't see what people see in the simpsons.. maybe
i'd see it too if i'd been exposed to it earlier (i only saw
the simpsons for the first time when i was about 12 or 13 -
and then for 2 or 3 years was exposed to the exact same
first 2 series shown again and again on tv)

family guy > the simpsons > * > futurama

anything's better than futurama. buying a car and losing
your license is better than watching an episode of futurama

ive always seen the simpsons as the old veteran, makes you
laugh because its so straight forward and such a classic.

Futurama is a bit so so, has some funny parts but not
overall that great

South park i think is more shock value and to see how far
you can push something, poking fun at pedophiles and human
rights .etc dont get me wrong it is damn funny but it
doesent seem to have the same hold that the simpsons has

Family guy on the other hand is great, it may be a little
forced but i dont really take much notice of that when
watching

the simpsons has improved a lot since season 2. and futurama
is the best show on telly, perhaps you would rather see a
constant stream of dumb jokes rather than a true animated
sitcom that incorporates emotion, character based humour,
satire, and crazy visual comedy?

In a recent interview on TV Guide, Seth McF. stated that he
idolizes and / or drew inspiration from... The Simpsons.
Many people agree (and the DVD sales prove) that Family Guy
is a "breath of fresh air" in the adult-oriented cartoon
world.
Second fact: It's the only show (at least cartoon) to be
"reborn" from being FUCKING CANCELLED.
I'll translate for the cynical:
It's a RIPOFF!
Oh shit I crack myself up

the homage family guy pays to the simpsons is undeniable.
but they totally transended that mold and that narrow
spectrum of humor that led to the suckiness of the later
simpsons episodes. one of the main reasons i like it is
because it is so completely filled with jokes... and
they're really fucking clever jokes as well... it's a much
more extreme, innovative, modern sense of humor compared to
the simpsons (which was all of those things when it first
came out).

I could never get into Family Guy. It's a pretty funny show,
but it rubs me the wrong way. Every single joke/set-up
instantly makes me think of an earlier Simpsons episode or
scenario. I just can not shake this dirty feeling, this
beentheredonethat feeling. I didn't get that with Futurama,
even though it was Groening, I guess because of the
drastically different setting and plots. And certainly not
with South Park. I think they consciously go out of their
way to do this sometimes, bringing on guys like Adam West
who was much more memorable 10 freaking years before on his
guest shot on that OTHER cartoon.

Another thing I dislike is how abrasive and obnoxious the
characters are. Homer is a clod, but he's got a certain
warmth and pathos. Peter is just a fat dipshit. The dog's a
cynical prick, the baby's a psycho and his character ends
there, the kids are a one dimensional moron/bitch pair,
their neighbours are ''zany'' and have nothing more to them
than their assigned gimmick, etc.

I dunno, there's just something subtlely nasty and smirking
about it, which I guess is why it's so popular. Seth can't
lose and the show is good by association, he's got a decade
worth of great older Simpsons material to draw from.

Maybe you haven't seen it lately but the characters have
evolved past that... with the exception of Peter. He'll
always be a fat dipshit.
