[the orb] towers of dub

Hello! I'm greg.

After all this time, this song is still most excellent! I
must say that i love so many things about it. That harmonica
adds a fun little area.

I love the fact it is a longer track. Makes it good driving
and traveling music!

Lovely track. I love UFOrb, great album, and the 40 odd
minute loing version of The Blue Room... Ambient Dub, ladies
and gentlemen, very nice.

UFOrb

UFOrb is amazing, but I think their best 'dub' track is Slug
Dub by far.

I agree, such a great album. My fav has to be Blue Room,
with Jah Wobble on the bass :D is that him on towers of dub
as well?

I listened to the Blue Room version last week(!). Very nice
indeed.

Sadly I fell off the Orb-train right after Orbvs Terrarvm,
didn't think Mr Paterson was at high game anymore. But
material previous to that is awesome.

I fell off at that point too. I wasn't keen on Toxicity or
Orblivion after that, and then that delayed album was a bit
ropey and out of touch, though I liked the Jimmy Cauty remix
of "Once More" (which didn't appear on either of the
singles, only some ghastly Tom Middleton lumbering mix)
but... well we've all moved on, I guess, but The Orb are
legends and eternal respect to Dr Alex.

100% knowledgable of all their material. What release is
this on?

I'll answer that, if you don't mind :)

It's on the Blue Room singleE from 92.

my favourite is orbus terrarum.
orblivion is my second favourite.
next comes uforb, then ultraworld, live 93, auntie aubrey
1+2, pomme fritz, cydonia, and finally bicycles +
tricycles.

i don't really like b+t but i really like 'from a distance'
on the european release.. even though it's a cheese fest.

cydonia and b+t are definitely not that great though. let's
hope lx either returns to form, or doesn't release anything
more.

I'm so old and rank I can recall The Orb playing chess as
they "performed" Blue Room on Top of the Pops. It got to
number 8 in the pop charts, those were the days...
*dribbles nostalgically then goes off to find slippers
and lunch of mashed up banana*

it just took me 5 minutes to find it, i have 2 copies.

what i presume to be the legit 12":

bedrock mix (i must admit to having a soft spot for bedrock,
i love all that progressive trance), radio edit & danny
tenaglia's mix

and a grey copy (if my memory serves me correctly 1 of 3 12"
promos?):

album verson, scourge of the earth & mark pritchard

i shouldnt think it would cost you much to get one, as you
said further up, orbus terrarum was where i got off the orb
train, pomme fritz was a joke, & terrarum was mediocre at
best.

Ohhh, maybe it's only on the 12", I was crying about the
CDs. And I said Middleton when I meant Pritchard. I tell you
now, I'm going to stop talking about things of which I have
only the scantest recall of the facts.

I liked all the Scourge of the Earth mixes Jimmy Cauty did
around that time, though i missed his Marilyn Manson and
Motorhead ones.

Tidying up a bit...

Hello! I'm greg.

Actually: "Hello, I'm Rags." - Spoken by the mechanical dog
in the Woody Allen film "Sleeper". Dubbed and reverbed all
to hell, of course. ;)

I think that we are the only people on the board that
like
UFOrb

Sir, you offend me!

My fav has to be Blue Room, with Jah Wobble on the bass :D
is that him on towers of dub as well?

Yup. Marney Pax on harmonica. Intro by Victor
Lewis-Smith.

I wasn't keen on Toxicity

Toxygene. I prefer the Ganja Kru remix, myself.

wait... there is a 40 minute version of blue room?

Yes and not hard to find.

Like I said, it's dubbed all to hell and back. I thought it
was "Hi, I'm black." for a while until a fellow Orb member
cleared things up...referring to the "Black gentleman"
Hailie Salasie that Marcus Garvey was calling for...

Yup. Can't remember off-hand the album name that was
sampled..."Tests of Human Irritancy" or something like
that...

haha! it IS victor lewis-smith then. i think it's called
'tested on humans for irritancy'. him & chris morris are
arch supposedly arch enemies and have accused each other of
stealing each others ideas; more likely it's a myth dreamt
up by the media. personally i think theyre quite different,
but both extremely funny.

time to point out there are torrent files of tv offal on
uknova but will appeal more to people in the UK. comedy
gold.

The 40 min. Blue Room was on a second disc of UFOrb (at
least in the states). I owned it for at least a month
before I even realized there was a second disc lurking
behind the main one. It was like christmas- couple remixes
of Fluffy clouds and the Blue Room mix!
Ten years ago for fuck's sake...

My favorite 'orb' is a set Patterson did at the Beta Lounge
in San Fran. I have an excellent rip of the DAT.

in england the 40 min. blue room was released first with the
outer box so you were forced the week after to buy the other
cd single in order that they both fitted properly. if you
were wondering about the ludicrous 39:58 time, it was
deliberately made as just under the 40 minute mark so it
would qualify as a single and chart respectively. since then
the rules of what qualifies as a single have changed again
so this will no doubt remain as the longest single ever for
the rest of eternity.

there's also a 12" with the 40 min version over 2 sides, a
w/l promo i think.

Brings to mind their work as the KLF and the super long
remix of "Last train to Trance Central" on the White Room
Ep. The train sample on that song is nuts...

It was album length because of the long mix, but sold as an
EP (again over here anyway) because it only had 4 or 5
songs.

Ill see if I can root it out after work.

acid heaven by the moody boys is a big favourite of mine,
don't think cauty had anything to do with it though. (b-sdie
of acid rapping)

a great cauty track i didn't even know was him up until a
couple of years ago is "let jimi take over", a rather vague
release on mr modo records, it may be listed as by STP or
something. it's probably listed in that lazlo discography,
he is the god of discogs after all.

Ohhh, i love that track, yeah.

I really liked the oxbow lakes cd single, but i'm always
hearing that get slated as well. I think i've just got an
odd liking for unpopular orb stuff. Apart from cydonia,
which was obviously rubbish.

That reminds me, did anyone hear any of that material that
was floating round on early internal promos for cydonia?
Apparently it was planned as a 2-disc set at one point but
all the tracks had been changed or cut for the final
release. I was always mildly curious as to what they sounded
like.
