I like the yellow Dunlop tortex picks filed to a point. I used to use heavier picks but I'm playing an Epiphone SG these days and the scale length is shorter so the strings are looser and the pick needs more flex. Filing them to a point gives amazing articulation compared to a regular pick. Regular round end picks make me feel like I'm trying to change a watch battery with a snow shovel.

Why don't you use a MIDI pick? It calculates the flex for you.

I used to use those fat purple ones for bass guitars. The were ultra heavy and and a thumbprint to rest your thumb in.
That was the original selling point for me. I really liked them and continued on for 8 years. I also like to use dimes.

Yeah, tortex standard tapered to a point. They make a kind called Tortex Sharp but too much of the sides are missing. I like a gentle curve to a little sharp bit on the end. They end up looking like the tortex jazz picks but larger.

The main difference is with the point I get a more consistent sound and I don't flub notes so much.
Haven't quite figured out how to work the guitar into my sound... I end up recording short progressions and running them through Reaktor and it ends up too Tim Heckerish for my liking - like I'm imitating him.

anyway, when I did play guitar I used to use the thinnest picks possible.
did you know Albini made the Pixies use metal picks while recording "surfer rosa" which is part of the unique sound of that record? lovely.

hahaha! No i started out by setting them on light bulbs on my lamp. I used various materials to make the pick soften. Othertimes i would melt them hardcore into various shapes.
I had some pretty wicked ones. I wish i still had them around. I lost all of my picks. They have a tendancy to get lost.
:/
I feel as though i should start again. I feel better playing with custom picks. They suit me exactly. Cant beat that with a stick!

Also speaking of guitars....
My friend entered a megadeth contest where you had to guess their 29 track set list. If you got it right then you won a Jackson (??) axe autographed by them.
You choose from every song ever. This bastard puts in his dream line up and wins.
arrgh!! Its a great looking and sounding guitar. It really shines! Fuck!

I played a bunch of Gibson SGs and a couple of Epiphone SGs (the Korean ones with the set-in, not bolt-on necks) and decided the Epiphone was actually nicer, while the american Gibsons were not a nice and far more expensive. I got one with a very light resonant body - knock them with your knuckles until you find one that has a fast loud *tak* response and that's a good guitar. My only complaint is that the bridge is not so hot - it's made out of cheap metal and doesn't sustain as well as it could. But that's a quick fix.

Yep I have a Marshall. I was far too greedy when I bought it and went for volume over quality. Its far too loud and far to big for my room, I wish I'd bought a small valve amp instead. On the plus side when I was in my last band I used it for gigging no trouble.

one of the first things i did was to add a single-coil to the center (the super-sonic has two lovely humbuckers) and a special switch so that i can get any combination of the pickups. so it can have three really distinct sounds right off the bat. customizing these things is fantastic.

I have an Ampeg V-7 - it's like a Fender wtin, has that huge billowing glossy clean tone. Unfortunately it uses 6550 power tubes which are expensive and fragile. I'm gonna dig it out of the closet someday and get it modded to use EL-34s or 6L6es.

They arent bad or anything and it is great for gigging. But my friend has this little fuck that i have never heard of and produces some of the best distortion and feed back ever. I was in awe. Then zoned out for 45 minutes jamming out what sounded like a "eyehategod" song.
A shit load of feedback and that typical sludgy new orl'ns sound. It was fecking great! I cant wait to go back

That sounds awesome. I remember considering a super sonic before this one. Your p/u set up is like the inverse of how I want mine... I love the 2 single coils but want to drop a humbucker in the middle to get a little heavy.
