This might be old news, but apparently the new Wipeout Pure game for PSP will have 'a soundtrack comprised of tunes composed specifically for the game by artists like Aphex Twin'.
Here's an article.

The first Wipeout for ps1, in addition to being a great game, had the first tune that got me into electronic music aside from hip hop and "jock jams". It was called "The Messij" I think. I liked the stuff TDR did for it too.

Since I have no PSP and don't plan to buy one, I'm hoping they will release the tunes as a soundtrack, like they did with 2097.

cool : )
...except that i won't buy a PSP, with that square button and dead pixels etc issues and the price and...
i also hate that my Wipeout Fusion corrupts its own save on the memory card, making it near unplayable "seriously" - you never know when all your progress will be erased. quite annoying.

yeah, it's bad wording. other sites confirm aphex without the questionable 'by artists like'.

That could've been hysterical. Especially the ponytail flapping as he did the last challenge (provided he made it that far).

He would probably run like a girl for a laugh, then try to rub Bobs face tan off (R.I.P.) and then hump the podium or something equally as crazy (That crazy Aphex Twin).

The Wipeout series was one of the major factors that got me into electronic music as well. Fluke, for example (featured on wipeoutXL and wipeout64 versions), was my favorite band for some time in my early high school days.

Aphex twin in wipeout?? That's a bad choice, wipeout's been rockin the trance/techno soundtracks since the dawn of ps1.
By the way, wipeout xl is the best video game ever. *pre-order's pure*

as far as i know this is the first time he's created/licensed music for/to a game, which is something in and of itself. everything else had just been rumour and speculation.
this could start a new trend in game music, with amon tobin doing splinter cell and aphex twin doing wipeout. i wouldn't mind hearing autechre and plaid the next time i beat someone up in a street fighter game.

Nice and good news on Aphex doing the tuuuunes, I know someone who got into electronic mucis through the music in the original wipeout and now like aphex, ae, etc. :D
Interestingly, designers republic (who do lots of work for warp) designed a lot of the content like company logos for racing teams, etc. in the previous wipeout games. IDM is taking over...
IMO Wipeout games = great presentation, mediocre game.
