The Old Negativity

offline dog_belch from Netherlands, The on 2005-02-24 15:44 [#01511594]

The old negativity, slagging off albums, artists
(established and new) has given way to a new spirit of
positivity where musical releases are treated with an
air of respect and admiration. Gone have the spiteful,
dismissive, ill conceived put downs to be replaced by
thoughtful, constructive adulation. This thread is to be the
last bastion of fucking moaning about everything. I'm going
to keep my gripes about all and sundry in this
thread, rather than rashly banging on in V.Snares or Ae
themed threads, so as to keep the place tidy. I thank you
for your time and your most generous indulgence.

It could go places, i think, you know, some people are right
and the moaning is a negative thing, I agree, it's so easy,
sooooooooooooo eaaaaaasssssssssssy to slag off music,
specially in this Ker-azy genre, and I don't want to be
viewed as a a complete TIT WAD, so if I could just keep my
gripes/upsets/rants/grievances, however misguided, here, and
those of other belicose souls, then I'm sure Phobia will
give me an internet knighthood.

It kind of bores me. I understand when "slaging" music is
ok.... ie someone creates utter trash but sometimes i wonder
if certain people actually listen to the release.

i often am very excepting of sound and music. I let the
artist be the storyteller and i am the small child at
bedtime listening and excepting everthing i hear. Even if i
dont like it i try to find qualities about it that i do
like.

It makes the experience more enjoyable. Anyways i am
rambling and a bit over tired. Off to drink a bit more

No you're right, and I like YOUR STYLE! It's true
what you say. I, however, find comfort in being bitter about
things because I have deep rooted problems in my psyche and
issues that are getting late in the day to address. It just
helps me to be arsey about music I don't like.

I have an obsession with sound or something. A good example
of that would be the fact that i have listened to every
piece of work that Ryoji Ikeda has ever done.

Perhaps that is why i usually dont have negitive comments
when people spam music here. I am very easy to please. I
love sound. Especially speech. I like how speech works.

i am negitive because i am currrently over tired. Does that
fit in this thread

i'm bitter about a lot of things. i think it's ace that
people have critcism, it usually opens up to great
conversations... unless people take it personally or if it'a
just to troll.. i find sir dog_belch to be most open about
what he says and always ready to discuss the matter
further.

deep down we all know it's relative, but it's nice to have
things to talk about, to voice our opinions.

You can do what you like in here, old son. You are right, in
many ways, and you've said it simply, which makes your case
more compelling.

I'd say this "Act as if the maxim of your action was to
become through your will a universal law of nature. (Kant's
Categorical Imperative)" if I weren't copy and pasting
something else.

I also like to hear about what people dont like. As in "why
did this sound bother you" or "what particular aspect of
this song turned you off"

It is very rarely that i hear such things.

It is, i think Hobbe-O is right that moaning often brings
out interesting insights, that's not to say that positive
responses don't, but, i don't know, moaning seems more
natural than "bigging up".... it's all about Communication
at the end of the day... and if one is only communicating
bollocks or contradictory signals there will be discord,
..but if one opens up and let's others in... there will be
harmony... and that's a good thing, surely?

Ok! That is an easy one. Here are my reasons for disliking
it.

1. I appears on my classic rock station that i like to enjoy
during afternoons. I am sorry but a 2005 release isnt
classic.

2. It is mainstream rape. The way it is portrayed on
commercials and such (ipod example) is rediculous. They
pushed it before the release. Excuse me but i can listen to
music on my own. I'd rather have music speak for itself then
have some TV ad brainwash me dry with this nonsense.

3. Upon listening to the few tracks i have heard (2?) i find
no substance there and i feel nothing. I fell as though this
was just scrapped together.

just me

The cruel shoes... "¿Donde esta la casa de Pepe?"... kitty
juggling.... and Henry Winkler.

I just tried to listen to Dial by Ae and after 7 minutes,
when i'd forgotten what i'd done, and then the thought "What
is this irritating bollocks" entered my brain-span, i
decided to nominate Gantz Graf as the second worst "keep
listening and try to find out what's good about it" purchase
after "New School Science" by Jedi Knights.

Plaid: trying to find a good melody, but never really
getting there, it never really sticks, the music never goes
one up on itself.

just try to find that good melody and fail.

and repeat.

I am glad i took over a year and a half off of electronic
music. It keeps me fresh. Now i am back.
----

There was some ambient album that didnt fit my standards of
ambient. Its hard for me to explain but when i put it in i
was thinking "what is this trash?" i kind of skimmed through
the album and i was disappointed with what i had found.

Especially since it had a title similar to ambient sounds
vol532 or something of that nature. I was expecting minimal
ambeint bliss and found rookie songs on a improperly labeled
album

How dare you fucking say that??!?!?! It is a very good pop
song albeit strait jacketed by a wankboys idea of cut up
beatz, which therefore makes it acceptable to wank boys.
It'd be interesting, I guess, if rather than release the
further wankery of the "Acid remix" version RDJ released a
more straight forward "pop remix", but then , what the
cunting fuck do I know?

That is a prime example of something i could never get into.
I did try and was mildly drawn to Pron coconut Co.

Overall i didnt like the feel to their music. Although i
havent even come close to hearing it all i find myself not
compelled to give it another chance. There are so many
artists out there that i must hear.

This is a good example of why p2p networks are good. I was
able to sample good quality music that i didnt like and
promptly trashed it. No harm no foul
