Hello friends. This thread is in regards to the Roland
JP8000 synthesizer. After reading 30+ reviews for the
JP8000, I have pretty much narrowed it down as my next synth
purchase. I was just wondering if anyone here has any
comments or any tidbits of info that are not very well known
but might lead to me choosing a different synth. I realize
this may not be the best place to post this kind of
question, but I did not know what else to try as I already
posted this on the forum dedicated to the synth I have now
(EX5tech.com), with no results. Reading reviews for the
synth has given me a pretty clear picture of what it is and
isn't capable of, but before I drop the coinage on this
baby, I want to be as certain as possible that it is what I
want... Well, I suppose I can always resell it on ebay if
it's not what I want, heh. Thanks for your help. :)

Unless you really need the keyboard version of the JP, I'd
suggest the rack version, JP-8080. It is better in every way
and has a cool vocoder. Other than that, both sound really
great (same engine).

yeah, I'm extremely disappointed that they couldn't be the
exact same features (I mean, who doesnt want a vocoder???)
but I understand that the 8080 came after the 8000 so it
makes since that is slightly improved... I know it seems
retarded to want a JP8000 when I could get the rack and a
midi controller, but I was planning on going 2 tier with my
keyboard setup (there are some reasons that I want the
keyboard version which are related to the shortcomings of
the actual keyboard on the synth I have now).. I just feel
from what I've read about it that the 2 synths would
compliment each other well... plus the 8080 costs more than
the 8000 and that doesn't include the price of getting a
nice midi controller to go along with it... ahh decisions,
decisions!

hell yeah i would get this one. i've been wanting one for a
while and i just like keyboards. what can i say. rackmounts
just never had as much cosmetic appeal for me. JP8000 is
just kind of like the modern analog modeling version of the
Jupiter 8. its that kind of cool, or at least thats the
impression i get.

i bought a MicorKorg though, new. i guess i buy synths
because of what they look like and then their abilities and
shortcomings dictate the limitations by which i'm challenged
and inspired. deadlines and limits are fantastic tools.

The interesting bits on the 8080 are the Audio In and voice
modulator capabilities. It also has 2 more voices of
polyphony, if the voice modulator isn't being used. Audio In
is not featured on the 8000.

Audio in is really awesome. You can use the JP filters to
mess with pre-recorded bits or other instruments. I've tried
this with my Roland SH-5 and Nord Modulars. The SH-5 can
produce some insane distortion/compression on drumloops
etc.

I need to power up my gear again soon and cut back on the
photography crap.

the jp-8000 samples that were heavily used in the mod
tracker scene were really nice
I recommend the synth based on those

pub uses his jp8000 very heavily.
he also records as lucky&easy.
plaid also have one. or had.

i've used it a bit either at stores or borrowed, and
reckon its quite good. the phrases/arpeggiator etc comes
up with some good mayhem, if you can get one for cheap, go
on. i'd get me one but too busy tryin to pay rent

"deadlines and limits are fantastic tools."

I couldn't agree more.

thanks to everyone who commented in this thread, it's mucho
appreciated! It just so happened that I found a buy it now
on a nice condition Jp8000 for only $400 US the day before
my birthday and I just had to snap it right up.. I'll let
you all know how I like it once it arrives. (I'm almost 100%
certain I will love it!) :)

"i'd get me one but too busy tryin to pay rent"

thats exactly why it took me so long to afford another
keyboard, but just my luck as soon as I have enough money
for one, I find a good deal on ebay.. hooray! :D
