It just never loses any of its flavor, no matter how many
times I listen to it. It has to be my most listened-to track
by Aphex, by far.

I just heard it for the first time recently! At first I
thought the percussion was too loud, but then I realized
that I'm an idiot.

When I was in japan I used my rudimentary knowledge of
Japanese to locate a ring-tone website on my cell-phone
which permitted me to download a Flim ringtone for 60yen,
which I used as my ring for the remainder of my year there.

hey, don't be so hard on yourself. that song is so beautiful
that 4 out of 5 dental hygenists recommend that it's pretty
unusual not to be stupefied by it.

yeah it's very nice, very "cool" beat with a really sweet
boinky feel too it, the music is simply very good..

this thread makes me very dizzy though, all the avatars are
doing things the three top ones really makes me go crazy
haha.
Sneakattack's avatar is cool but slightly annoying.

you know what, and i am in the minority, and i also hate
comparing the two tracks - it inevitable since they are both
on ctd ep, but i have always liked iz us better, to me iz us
was more melancholic and flim was always more playful, and i
guess i am a sucker for the melancholy.

"to me iz us was more melancholic and flim was always more
playful"

yeah I feel the same way... I guess I prefer the playful
because there's enough meloncholy in my life already and
it's impossible for me to feel bad while listening to flim.
:)

"flim" is great - it doesn't sound that much like any other
track on the EP - or like any AFX's work for that matter.
it's clean and tranquil.

"it's clean and tranquil." yeah, unlike the Selected ambient
works albums?
He has a lot of clean and tranquil music I would say.

the SAW tracks are not very clean.

I think a lot of them are. Cliffs and Rhubarb would be my
two examples, but there are others. I think some tracks from
RDJ's album are probably equally as clean. Bbydhyonchord i
would say also sounds clean and tranquil.

recall your autechre threads when you perform the act so
that you don't forget the justification even for a second.

Flim is excellent because it is one of the few instances of
Aphex taking an idea and comleting it without being
excessively experimental

Everything is perfect in flim as well as every track on come
to daddy (the first being a strange one I rarely listen to
but still quite strange and aphexy in that it makes people
go "wtf"). Many subtle things:
Each "bass drum" is unique, taking volume and pitch into
account... the little beat is very playful and wicked..
aphex makes hypnotic music like a (cuddlefish?) paralyzing
its victims with hypnotic patterns of light.. there's the
complexity of the beat vs. the simplicity of the music...
listen to parts 1:37 vs. 1:49 I love how the second
violinish tone comes slightly further in time than the
first... there's the linear repeating cymbol that wouldn't
really work as well any other way possibly, but even that
has a wicked little backlash on the very last one (similar
to the backwards intro to the entire song at the very
beginning).. though simple, the melody is excellent and nice
to hear..

the end of funny little man.

but yeah the arpeggiation is so fucking smart.. damn. every
other time I hear people arpeggiate in electronic they seem
to pick out the wrong damned voices.

flim and iz us are both beautiful tracks. whoever said
melancholy and playful is spot on :)

One way to find it is to find the ae remix (available on the
front page of this site or something) that is the same way
since it is made by the same person.

It's too bad everyone sucks too much, otherwise we'd have
equally good quality remixes of flim (melancholy style) and
iz us (playful style) instead of vice versa.
