We'll do some performance tests tonight. Basically we want to find out how many users we can serve w/o any buffering issues. So make sure to be here around 9pm (CET) if you want to have a listen...

Excellent, this will be cool when up and running. I could only serve 25 on lowest quality when I have done broadcasts before, good luck getting it running.

it's more or less just a test to check performance - don't expect any analord8 tracks.
we use to run 12 connections, but i'd really like to try out twice that @ 92kbit. let's hope we find out the "peek" tonight.
the idea behind the radio is to have broadcasts at somehow regular intervals, spiced up with special live sessions from established artists, mixing live of cos.

96k mono = 192k stereo. wouldnt it be an idea to setup shoutcast (i assume thats what youre using) to stream one 64k mono stream and one 128k stereo stream? that way users on slowe connections can listen too without much noticable quality loss - i personally dont really mind about mono/stereo on 128k bitrates.

well you see mono takes almost half the bandwidth
for example a 96k mono stream is about the same quality as a 192k stereo stream. so if you set up a 128k stereo and a 64k mono stream you are sacrifising the stereo sounds, but users with slower connections can connect too.
you recover the bandwidth you lose with the 128k stereo stream, compaired to the 96k stereo stream, by the user that tune in to the 64k stream. this may sound like im a purist but 128k stereo is listenable, whereas 96k stereo sounds too 'mp3-y' for me.
