Fabien Porée negates both the underground and
mainstream, in favour of just being completely awesome.

True.. it's all a matter of perspective. On the flipside,
there's the people around where I live, who look at you like
you're a leperous zombie when you say the name Aphex Twin.

real conversation that took place earlier this week, more or
less.

Drunk Girl: What kind of music do you like?
Me: Mostly electronic music.
Drunk Girl: Oh, I love electronic music.
Me: Oh yeah? Who are some of your favorite artists?
Drunk Girl: Oh, well, um, my roommate plays Eiffel 65 alot.
And I like that.

quite selective taste, must say :)

most of them don't know aphex here either..people on
xltronic really have wrong perception of how famous he is,
if i judge on my opinion ofcourse :)

I agree. It's funny how when you enter an environment like
xltronic, Aphex Twin becomes like Britney Spears and it's
easy to get your perception warped of just how ubiquitous it
is. I just assume that since Aphex Twin actually has
releases you can find at Barnes and Noble, for example, that
everyone must at least know the name.

most people who regularly listen to electronic music, like
techno, know who Aphex Twin is.

and yes, how easy a release is to be found at mainstream
recordstores is a pretty good indicator how wellknown
someone is.
