Who wins? Personally I prefer the cars that people drive in
the UK. I guess they just look nicer.

in the U.s. we have highways beyond your dreams.

you can drive for days on open, practically empty highways
(outside of city).

from anyone/everyone ive spoken to who came to this country,
that is one of their most.how do i say, umm, "awe struck"
thing that they loved.

U.S. highways > *

do you mean cars you seeon the road or manufactured? doesn't
matter, i'd say UK for both. but if you love wasting gas
with mind-boggling fuel inefficiency, then come to america.

I dont like cars really. I dont see the big fascination.
They get me from point A to point B (sometimes). I'd rather
live in Manhatten and take a subway or just walk everywhere.

the size of cars i've seen in america is rediculous, i'd
definately say uk as i'm not fond of environmentally
unfriendly cars.

Our cars are big and gas guzzling because we don't get
humped as badly for petrol as the rest of you fools do. If
Europeans are comfortable with tucking their nut sacs into
the glove compartment when they squeeze into their
'style-laden econo-boxes' cheers to them.

TVRs and Bentleys are the only "Real "UK ones left, right? I
know TVR was sold to a foreigner last year, but he's keeping
it all British.

So... 2 of the best manufacturers in the world. Whups Ford,
Cadillac, Pontiac, et al IMO.

Truimph motorbikes are good too, but Royal Enfield ones
suck. TVR are probably going to move into motorbikes in the
next couple of years.

Some of the classic yank cars, like the Aubrey are good,
though. Really slick 1950s styling.

Bentleys are notoriously overpriced.
The common mantra being "bentley's are the most expensive
trucks on the planet" as in heavy and poor handling.

Puff Daddy would agree with your 'best in world'
declaration.

Fact is all cars suck and you are a slave to them the moment
you drive them off the lot.

'Personally I prefer the cars that people drive

'

I did mean the cars that people drive in the US and the UK
not the ones they make. Just need to clear that up.

2000 Points!

The ting is, people in the UK drive pointless cars

I mean, is there realy any point in having a convertable in
the UK? Fair enough if you can swap it to a hard top in the
winter but we just aint got the weather here for soft tops

To quote Ian Fleming, from the novel, Live and Let
Die
(1954):

Bond liked fast cars and he liked driving them. Most
American cars bored him. They lacked personality andt he
patina of individual craftmanship that European cars have.
They were just 'vehicles', similar in shape and in colour,
and even in the tone of their horns. Designed to serve for a
year and then be turned in in part exchange for the next
year's model. All the fun of driving had been taken out of
them with the abolition of a gear-change, with
hydraulic-assisted steering and spongy suspension. All
effort had been smoothed away and all of that close contact
with the machine and the road that extracts skill and nerve
from the European driver. To Bond, American cars were just
beetle-shaped Dodgems in which you motored along with one
hand on the wheel, the radio full on, and the power-operated
windows closed to keep out the draughts.

[pp 236-237]

Not my words, those of Ian Fleming.

My girlfriend agreed with the general sentiment of it, but
said there were specific examples of Yankee automobiles
which were good.
