Anyone else have problems with variable bitrate mp3s?

It seems like all mp3 players have trouble reading the
length of the mp3 as well as trying to scroll backwards or
fowards through a track. At least my winamp and ipod have
trouble. Has anyone taken notice of this?

some mp3 players will not be able to read the information
properly but will still play them correctly

You can use vbrfix to repair the files with those
problems, but it doesn't happen if you encode with lame.

For ordinary listening, it makes no sense to use CBR.

VBR encoding was in various states of brokenness until LAME
came along ... but that's all been sorted years ago.

The only good application for CBR is when you're trying to
stream over a fixed-bandwidth link and have to know exactly
how much data you're pumping. And even then ABR might give
you better quality under the same bandwidth constraints.

viva VBR!
