Fuck no.

I like New Wave. Thats quasi-indie. But perhaps not indie
enough.

indie means rather different things to different people...
when i think of indie rock, to me it means rock on
independant labels... and yes i listen to a lot of it...

Have to listen to this stuff where I live cos no-one plays
any decent music. Kasabian's the only recent band I've
enjoyed for ages, but I suppose they're not really moulded
into the genre being used here.

I used to listen to a lot of indie bands ten years ago and I
still like many of those bands today. Many of them started
out as indie bands but are more established today - like
Stereolab. But these new bands like The Strokes and White
Stripe and so on I don't know very much about but most of
the stuff I've heard is rather good. I hate all those Nu
metal bands however. I think guitar based music is more
interessting these days than electronica. I love bands like
Royal Trux, The Clientele, Broadcast and Sun Kil Moon. I
hate Hoobastank...yuk!

I guess I am a big fan of "Contemporary Prog Rock"* The Mars
Volta, Tool, Do Make Say Think etc.

It is refreshing to see this kind of music making a
comeback

*I just made up this genre terminology and if anyone can
think of a better term let me know!

Years ago, if anyone asked what music I liked, I'd say
"indie" and they wouldn't know what I meant. Now I don't
know what "indie" is meant to mean. I guess that's how
things should be.

They changed it to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, for some
reason. I haven't a clue why.

I like some bands, it's too bad half of the genre insist on
imitating the others, it's pretty hit and miss.

Well you could say the same about INTELLIGENT DANCE MUSIC or
any other kind of music for that matter.

Let's face it though, it's pretty rampant in indie rock.
It's pretty bad in IDM too, I agree but some genres are
worse than others.

Not in the sense of the new breed of shaggy haired ''cats'',
but yeah, I like indie rock, new and old. But it's such a
huge umbrella with so much under it. So of course most are
going to say ''yes'', it's so broad. I tend to think of twee
bands like Belle and Sebastian, Hooverphonic and the
Lucksmiths when someone says ''indie rock'' for some reason.
No GOOD reason.
