Subtitle: Some rubbish i found on old tapes and decided to
rip to webfilez and share for no good reason.

Here are some things from when i was younger. They
haven't got any real titles or anything so i just called
them some silly names. Anyway, the 6 (six! count 'em!)
musical joys i am sharing are all at 96kpbs quality, as
befits their quite hilariously rubbish nature. They
include:

- A tape of my french oral exam from when i was 13
- Some tortured adolescent grungeness from when i was
learning to play guitar
- A recording of aforementioned grungeness where my recorder
went momentarily insane and buggered up the results before
spitting out a mess of see-through plastic and
chromium-oxide cassette tape
- A couple of "choons" i made on my dad's 80s sampler and
cheap 4-track (featuring samples by the likes of bjork,
orbital and our friend the aphex twins, as well as my shitty
guitar-playing)
- A nigh-7-minute jam-session with my dad that is almost
indescribably bad.

Still to come:

- A tape of my first speakages when i was a small
baby-thing
- My dad playing along to some jazz piano tracks on his
saxomaphone (these are actually quite good)
- Any other old crap i can root out

I hope you enjoy this nonsense.

I like old tapes, excellent idea, i look forward to more. I
think a compilation of everybodies tape-based doodlings
would be a good idea. It could be a side XLT Vibes project..
XLT C-90.. no, I don't know. Remember that my tape based
shenanigans are still very much available here

Argh. The site's a bit wonky sometimes, give it 10 minutes
or something and it should be alright again. Maybe. I've
said it before and i'll say it again: Fuck you, yahoo
briefcase. Fuck you.

Also: XLT-C90...? FUCK YEAH, i'd love that. Bollocks to
low-bitrate distortion, tape hiss all the way.

*This is now my expression for something that i am looking
forward to and expect to be quite good.

I love tapes and the random stuf on them, the sound
quality.... Ohhhhhh...ssssss.... I think a compilation
archive would be great.

However, on the Sleepman tapes, don't get your hopes up,
just that they ARE on tape is their saving grace. Well not
now, obviously.

DS9mm's "Arsecandle" is begging for a remix, absolute
genius.

Heh! I like untitled #1 anyway. It sounds rather like
somebody ate a jesus and mary chain album and vomited it
back up half digested. Which is a good thing, although the
description wouldn't really tell you that. I'll be sure to
grab the others at some point in the near future.

Also: this thread will welcome any member's posts of old
stuff they're a bit embarrassed about, be they on tape or
otherwise.

POST NOW!!! All the cool kids are doing it.

Get the correct cable from pc world or summat, stick it in
the headphones-bit of yer stereo and the mic port of your
pc, bang the tape in and hit record in your program of
choice. Simple as pie my man, and lots of fun to be had.

XLT-90 would be a great idea, as long as the material is
good. I know my early doodlings are absolutely horrid and
it's a shame I ever commited them to any format, so i don't
think I will contribute.

Anyways, props to ya for sharing, I must say it was quite a
fun listen :)

And by the way, Safari couldn't load your briefcase, but
FireFox did it without problems.

I can't rember the name of the cable, but both ends should
look like the bit on the end of your headphone wire. They're
hella easy to find at most shops and pretty cheap, shouldn't
be more than 7 or 8 quid.

Well just one or two tracks, not the whole, protracted
oeuvre. I will be transferring a particualrly sexual
selection of VERY EDITED keyboard based sonic doodles. I
like young DS9mm's spoken word pieces, I think any things
like conversations, sounds, you know, ephemera, as well as
music..... oh I don't know, maybe it's just me, sorry.

oh jesus christ I'm listening to all my old tapes which I
recorded when I was around 15/16 years of age...

yes, it's just me, a taperecorder, a tape, a dilapidated
guitar, one chord, my thin voice and puberty. a LOT of
puberty.

I am digitalificating them, and in time, I'll release small
tidbits in this, the Alex Tapes thread, for I too am an Alex
and blessed we Alexes all are with a small library of
embarrassing tapes.

thing that annoys me is I can't find the later tapes, which
involve me ROCKING OUT on electric guitar and loadsa
distortion.

MORE!!

Sadly i could not find any more of my terrible old
recordings, so i decided to root even deeper into the filth
of my room to bring you two more tape-based nonsenses.

- "Single Parent Despair" is taken from a 1990 "haven
holidays" tape for, yes you guessed it, the children of
single parent families. There was a "tiger club" that we
were herded into for the night whilst the bitter divorcees
drank themselves silly. Hurray! P.S. The lyrics are
awesome.

- "Ginger Dale Plays His Heart Out" is from a rather
unlikely source: that of my friendly ex-speed dealer playing
"bohemian rhapsody" with a steel band when he was a young
'un. It is surprisingly competent.

Download at will, probably very slowly.
