after having changed (for free, thanksfully!) my amp and headphones just after i bought them because they were defective even though they were brand new, now it's the cd player which is skipping. 5 skips in a month of use now, do you find this normal? given the brand (Marantz doesn't have a bad reputation do they?!) and the price (almost € 300), i was expecting something that works fine, but i guess you just CAN'T have anything that works right. same thing with my parents' car, by the way. and not to mention computers... there is no sense in buying expensive stuff, it will be defective ANYWAY. *bitter* |

I buy cheap stuff all the time, and it all seems to work for me, and if something DOESN'T work, I can usually fix it but like, I have a cd player that skips backwards but not forwards, and that is very annoying, not much I can do about it though.. |

yes... well i'll tell the shop about it anyway... but they only accept refunds and exchanges within 15 days, so all i could get is a repair for free / i just HOPE there is something to repair and that it's not considered "normal". : | |

fuck. i got it "repaired", waited for one month... got it back, they said they changed defective pieces, and guess what? i got a skip. AGAIN. i bought all the gear in early september, we're in late december and it still doesn't work right - i guess it never will. maybe i'm going to write a reclamations letter or something, anyway i'm going to the shop again, i don't care if it's useless, (there's no use in posting this, either) i'm just so fucking pissed about this. |

sometimes it seems like this. just keep warranties and such in order items are designed to break down right after the warranty's expiration. what's the point of building things that last forever? you'll only sell one every 50 years. |

my parents still use their sony amp my mother had 30 years ago. 30 years without buying an amp. how much $ do reliability and trust bring to the manufacturer? in a few years, people will be used to buy a stereo once a year and that will be considered normal. credibility is earned with advertisement, not quality. |

Well some like swiss army knife keep their prices high because their product is known as being good quality. Maybe that's a bad example. But it must be hard to intentionally design something to break after about exactly 3 years or something. If it works ok for 3 years straight, what sort of design would suddenly make it stop working? I suspect they tend to make money by having high prices right when starting to sell it, then selling lots. |

as things get more complex, the number of things that can go wrong increases. you can't keep making things smaller, faster, cheaper.. eventually you'll reach the point where physics says "NO.. sorry, things this small can not be made to work predictably for long periods of time".. |

i don't think sony's ceo buys his stereos, so i doubt that he cares whether he has to change them every 2 months. who gives a fuck about the customers? they'll buy stereos anyway. the trick is to make stuff that last just a little bit longer than the others. |

i think i'm really unlucky, because it's not only the cd player that has problems, but i had to get everything i bought back then exchanged or repaired (the cd player, the amp and the headphones)... (the headphones are somewhat worrying me too, because even if they work fine, there is a staple in this that's not meant to be there - the box looked somewhat "used" too, i hope they didn't sell me a demonstration item instead of a new one, it already happened to me with a computer) EVERY cd player i have or had has got problems (i only had portable ones before that): the old Philips one i borrowed from my father was working perfect until the antishock system stopped working and it started skipping at random times, the new Philips one i bought makes parasite noises on some CD between tracks (and, for two cds i have, even inside the tracks), i also tried a Panasonic one but it wasn't handy at all with the remote and all that, besides it made the CDs start at any track at random and not track 1 (i brought this one back to the shop the next day i bought it and got a refund)... |

you could be very static, wich can cause problems. do you sometimes burst lightbulbs as you turn the light on? i have that at times, and a lot of tv sets and stereos have suffered from it. |
