Found this..

"Warning!

Google Desktop Search is NOT secure.

It tells you to uninstall certain firewalls and virus
programs
you may have installed in order for it to install.
This is NOT a sound thing.

Google "says" that you can opt out of transmitting
data to Google, but they don't tell you that you can't
firewall GDS completely, so it will be able to transmit
data behind your back by using a windows program(IE)
or service that your firewall lets out, and you won't know
about it.

Before more people have looked in the code and there
is more info on what things it does my recommendation
is to not even touch it with a ten foot pole if you care
about
your privacy."

I aint newer gonna install that shit, too freaky

"So that you can easily search your computer, the Google
Desktop Search application indexes and stores versions of
your files and other computer activity, such as email,
chats, and web history."

...what?

they probably just need you to disable them to install the
thing. Once it's installed it should be fine to turn the
firewalls back on

..why should you disable your firewall to install an
application?

anti virus software I can understand, but your firewall..?

..and the point is, this is about when it is in use and your
firewall is enabled again:

"but they don't tell you that you can't firewall GDS
completely, so it will be able to transmit data behind your
back by using a windows program(IE) or service that your
firewall lets out, and you won't know about it."

well since it's going to be a internet based desktop thingy
they probably need sever information during the
installation, which firewalls can block

Now me and you will probably do the right thing and allow
whatever app to acess the internet once to register, but the
average moron will deny the connection and never be able to
install it

The some thing happens with some of our software, ie you
need to disable the firewalls to install it. It's just to
prevent user error

google don't give a shit who you are; people are always just
