why is crappy called crappy?

more appropriate name would be "awesome", "fappy" (as in
'fap' 'fap 'fap'), 'orgasmic acid' or something similar.

whoever named it got his head in his arse, that's for sure.

Isn't it from the Caustic Window Album and he was planning
to name all the tracks things like crappy, poo, bum, fanny
etc.?

it sounds more like "aphex twin" stuff than caustic window.
it's a fucking mad acid tune, i've got a really good quality
live recording of it. but it's a shame it wasn't released.

well, maybe it was an untitled track RDJ didn't like and
titled "crappy" because he thought it was crappy...

or perhaps it was on a random CD-R or whatever in his house,
with random stuff on it and with a label saying "crappy" on
it (like some people have folders on their computer with
names like "random crap" or "stuff", full of unsorted
downloaded files)...

the track isn't officially titled "crappy," but back in 1998
or so it originally circulated as an mp3 from an american
radio show (i think from seattle) in which rdj was briefly
interviewed and played a version of this track. the
interviewer asked him what the track was and rdj replied
something to the effect of "just some crappy track." the
track subsequently cropped up in live sets in elaborated
form. i've got the original mp3 on my old mac which is
unfortunately currently unbootable... i might have it in a
cd archive, i'll see if i can dig it up...

found it...

"it's just a crappy old, one of my tracks that i'll never
release, just fancied listening to it, about three minutes
worth" rdj replies when asked what the track is called. he
also gives the dj a ring-mod whistling lesson while "4"
plays in the background. the track, as mp3, was then
labeled "crappy." the actual track itself plays for less
than two minutes in this version.

so technically, the track is untitled.

i have that same interview where he refers to an earlier
version of EQUATION as "just some crappy old, one of my
tracks i'll never release." haha and then he did!

that's not the song i'm talking about! it's one that he
played live around '97, a crazy acid track with hard beats,
which is unofficially called 'Crappy'

hmmmmm

i also have a different, live recording of the radio track,
which is elaborated and i think labeled crappy. i was under
the impression that the equation track was the third
generation version, and that ultimately all three tracks are
versions of the same input.

but i haven't listened to them for years so maybe i'm
wrong...

if this is the track, it's pretty forgettable i'd say... i
wouldn't say crappy, but... really nothing striking ' _'

i'm pretty sure that the track you've linked is called
"crappy" because it is assumed to be related to the track
"crappy (radio mix)." they may not truly be related, or may
represent different mixes of a somewhat generic track.
almost any title would be better...
