Game Overview.
Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.
Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.
On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.
Liberty City. Vice City. Now San Andreas, a new chapter in the legendary series. Grand Theft Auto returns to the PlayStation®2 this October.

Features.
The following are the features known so far with San Andreas:
Three cities to roam: "Los Santos" (Los Angeles), "San Fierro" (San Francisco) and "Las Venturra" (Las Vegas).
"The entire game area is approximately four to six times as large as the entirety of either of the previous entries in the series," said Dan Houser.
Expect "real-time reflections on cars, windows, and mirrors, as well as new techniques like radial lighting, which allows for more realistic shadowing, and soft-shadow lighting for interior levels," said Game Informer.
Everything in the game now has independent models for day and night to give better lighting and shadowing.
Four-person drive-by shootings.
House robberies.
Mountain(s) and Smog.
Bicycles.
"Impact animation," also known as ragdoll physics.
Stamina meter as well as the ability to stay fit or get fat.
Enhanced A.I. where every character has a "brain".
The ability to swim.
You will be able to recruit gang members to go with you wherever you want and do four-person drive-by's.
Dual weapons (dual pistols confirmed) have been implemented

First Update - 17th June 2004
Gameplay
These 'in between' areas will contain their own unique characters and gameplay sequences.
San Fierro (San Francisco) contains lots of hills, and will involve a lot of driving.
There are tons of fully rendered interiors, which will involve new styles of gameplay.
Because of these interior expansions, you have the ability to rob houses.
Buying properties and making business is to expand greatly.
In Las Venturra, you are able to buy, construct and run your very own casino.
The game contains a greater level of seriousness, but still includes humour.
San Andreas will include some 'familiar faces'... some characters from previous titles.
Because of the new pedestrian modes, you can recruit members into your gang, to help you with missions.
You can conduct 4-person drive-by shootings.
All tasks, missions and side-missions have a purpose. They all contain relevance to the main storyline, and allow you to learn new skills required in missions.
House break-ins require skill and planning. It's not as easy as a car-jacking.
As you progress, new styles of gameplay are introduced.
In Las Venturra, you can gamble your well earned money.
The game will still include built in tutorials, however, there are hundreds of skills to learn, so instead of installing hundreds of tutorials, you learn these skills during missions & side tasks.
In every mission you will be doing something new.
In order to maintain physical state, Carl must eat and goto the Gym. He can become obese, and underweight. This involves a stamina meter. Too much fast food and no exercise makes Carl obese. Carl's lifestyle and physical condition will affect his stamina, and the gameplay.
You can collect missions in the countryside.
You now have the ability to swim in the game. If you drive into water, you can escape through the car window, or sink along with the vehicle! Some missions require swimming.

.......continued
You can get a haircut, and style of your choice.
You can bounce your car with the right analog stick.
Carl chews gum.
The weather system has improved, and is packed with extra features.
You can 'hide' from police, in shadows and behind buildings. You can pick them off one by one, using various new techniques.
The game will still be hilarious, although seriousness has increased.
You can take over areas of the map, with your gang, the Orange Grove Families.
The game is set in early 1990s; one of the most troubled and divisive times in Californian history.
The radio will contain a mixture of different 90s style songs, aswell as some famous (older) west coast songs.

Technology
Rockstar North's programming staff have designed new streaming and rendering technology. The game will boast environments that are more intricate and more interactive than in previous titles.
The sense of immediacy has increased, due to a number of technical improvements to the games graphics engine.
There will be real time reflections on cars, windows and mirrors.
There will be radial lighting which allow more realistic shadows; soft shadow lighting for interior levels.
Everything in the game has independant models for day and night time, to make sure that objects look as detailed and vivid during the evening hours, as they do during the day.
The only loading times in the game occur when entering buildings/interiors.
A new "impact-animation" system has been added, another term for ragdoll physics. When you hit somebody, they will fall to the pavement in a painfully realistic fashion.

Setting
San Andreas is not a city, it's a state.
The city will not be set in Los Angeles, San Francsico or Las Vegas, but in all three.
The cities will contain countryside in between.
The state will contain three cities, Los Santos (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Francisco) and Las Venturra (Las Vegas)
Each city is approximately the same size as Vice City.
Not all of the cities will be accessible to begin with.
The entire game is estimated to be 4-6 times larger than previous GTA releases.
You can travel between cities, on roadways that pass countryside.
The countryside offers a mountain.
It is possible to drive from LA, through countryside, up a mountain into San Francisco, and onto Las Vegas.
Every bit of the new map is crisp, and has a lot more going on than previous titles.
There is desert land in the game, which will be deserted. It will however, contain very interesting features.
The cities contain miles and miles of interstate, valleys, freeways, deserts, coastline and badlands. You are free to explore all of them.
The countryside contains fiels, farms, rivers, forests, deserts and hills.
The countryside contains a legendry mountain nearly half a mile tall. It takes a minute just to fly from the base to the top in a chopper, and much longer on bike.
The desert contains tumbleweed.

New vehicles that aren't available in town, are available in the countryside, like quad bikes.
You can race in the country.
There will be new modes of transportation. BMX Bicycles.
Car handling is improved.
Hundreds of new vehicles have been added.
Characters
The main character is called Carl Johnson.
Johnson spent 5 years in Liberty City. He left San Andreas, a ghetto neughbourhood, after the killing of his brother Brian. He died in a tragic incident. Carl's older brother Sweet Johnson blamed Carl for the incident.
Carls mother dies.
Carl returns to San Andreas, for the funeral. He finds his family, and his old gang, the Orange Grove Families.
Sweet Johnson and his sister Kendall fight a lot.
Sweet, Smoke and Ryder are members of the Orange Grove Families.

July 23rd.
Source-September EGM
-The damage system is now much improved for cars -Los Santos has the first missions, then San Fierro has the middle ones, and ending missioons will be in Las Venturras.
-In Las Venturras, Carl will expand his empire, but how is entirely up to you.
-You can choose who you want to hit unlike VC and 3 where it was forced to be the nearest one.
-You can see twice as far as in previous GTAs. -Rockstar has something they won't tell, but it involves Girlfriends and gyms.
7/24/04 New Information: -- Three franchise restaurants are to be included: Burger Shot, Well Stacked Pizza and Cluckin Bell, a Mr. Whoopee ice cream stand, as well as the Sprunk Soda brand beverage which was in Vice City.
-- A message will pop up onscreen when Carl becomes hungry. Players who ignore this message will see CJ's bodyfat reduce, with the effect of his clothes no longer fitting properly. Skininess won't just have a visual effect either, a thin Carl will be weak, unable to throw powerful punches, lift heavy boxes and will lack stamina, meaning cycling, running and swimming become difficult.
-- Conversely, eating too much will see Carl become fat, with similar effects of loss of stamina, poor fighting abilities (due to slow response times AND CJ becoming a larger object to hit). Interestingly, the walking animation will change, to a penguin style 'waddle' due to CJ's inability to put his hands by his sides while in this state.
7/26/04 New Information: -- On sitting down in Reece's barber shop, players can scroll through a list of haircuts, previewing each one. Some cost up to $500 to apply to the character.
-- The map is 'America Shaped', and Los Santos is less than a quarter of it, in the bottom right corner.
-- Streets will glow orange due to the harsh sunlight. -- During a four-person driveby, each character can have an independent target, and a car health meter is displayed on screen to show the damage which has been inflicted on the car.

7/29/04 New Information -- Here the names of some other small towns in San Andreas: Shady Creeks, Flint County, Whetstone, Fern Ridge, and Red County.
-- Each major city will have it's own airport where you will be able to steal a Dodo and fly around the state.
-- You'll be able to pick up hitchhikers. -- You'll have a tow truck that will tow cars. -- You will be able to choose your own camera angle with the right analog stick.
-- You can find a wide array of outfits in shops around the state.
7/30/04 New Information -- The change between city and countryside is gradual. -- The air in Los Santos has a bright, gritty feel, and occasional bursts of rain; San Fierro is foggy; Las Venturas has clear air and harsh lights; the countryside has a warmer, more natural vibe to it.
-- The game has an improved use of partical effects. Exhaust smoke, tyres kicking up dirt, clouds of smoke when you stand on the brakes, and sparks flying from bullets.
-- Carjacking animations have improved. Rather than pulling the driver out of the vehicle, CJ opens the door, wacks him in the face, and throws him onto the road.
-- Country music is confirmed and will probably be picked up through radio stations in the countryside and small suburban towns
-- Kendall is angry with CJ because he wasn't around to help the family.
-- The number of recorded stats has increased. There will be a stat for just about everything you do; driving motorcycles, driving cars, swimming, running, sprinting and so on.
-- Pedestrians call obese Carl a 'fat ba*tard'. Even your own gang members say "dude, you need to lose some weight".
-- The pedestrian AI has improved greatly. You may see two pedestrians walking down a street, holding hands. If you break them apart, they'll react, and hold hands again.
-- Each pedestrian lives a different life. You can literally 'stalk' a pedestrian, watch he/she get out of their house, goto a shop, meet up with a girl, and go home again (for example).

CJ can get custom tattoos. In Los Santos the tattoos will feature gang names, guns, and women, typically in black patterns of the time. San Fierro's tattoos include Aztec symbols and drug iconography, and the Las Venturra designs focus upon gambling.
You can control the camera with the Right Analog stick while driving / running, meaning you can fire weapons while moving in a different direction.
Cars will get dirty, and may rust if they are not cleaned regularly.
Gang member AI has improved. They integrate more, and will respond to how well you treat them, eg if an enemy chases you into home territory, your fellow gang members will help kill the intruder.
The BMX bike allows CJ to perform stunts such as bunnyhops, wheelies, and endos, as well as 360s and 180s.
Civilans do not allow you to carjack them as easily. They fight back, and resist. CJ can do things such as pistol-whipping, and ramming their head into the dashboard, to get them to give him the car.
St. Brutus Motel will be a place to meet new folks and cut some deals, and will be used right throughout the game.
There will be several gyms in the game. The Los Santos gyms focus on fighting (punches / kicks) in a boxing scenario. In San Fierro, the gyms equip CJ with martial arts techniques. In Las Venturra, you can learn street fighting techniques, and drity tricks.
Police AI has improved. They run and duck for cover, and back each other up more.
Looking at Police Choppers can hinder vision if you look directly at the searchlights.
Police can chase you on motorcycles, and shoot at you while driving.

Ability to swim
• New weapons, more variety, revamped old weapons
• Improved car handling
• More modes of transportation
• More populated, more detailed, and has more cars, weapons, challenges, characters, secrets, music, and more storyline than Vice City. The three cities have their own individual style; architectural style, vehicle population, mission types, character’s accents, and the actions of pedestrians.
• There are new vehicles that can’t even be used in a town, such as a quad bike, that you can race in the country. San Fierro is very hilly and there is a big emphasis on driving in this part of the game.
• Swimming was added because Rockstar knew about the constant request and was tired of being told it couldn’t be done. Not a huge emphasis was made on swimming, as the feature is there for playability.
• In addition to eating, getting fat, and working out at the gym, another stat feature is cutting your hair. You can go to the barber and get your haircut how you want. If you have a bad haircut, pedestrians make fun of you and call you stupid. If you have a good one then they are impressed.
• The LA vibe is there with the smog, crystalline light, the thud of a basketball off in a court, the air filled with hip hop, the blazing sun, the light reflecting off low riders bouncing with hydraulics.
• Individualized each player’s experience to make the game as non-linear as possible.
• The draw distance is now twice as much as Vice City in the urban environments and four times as much in the countryside.
• The character models are much more detailed than previously.
• The only loading times in San Andreas are slight pauses when entering buildings.
• Game will be on a Dual-Layer DVD.

• First-person has returned!
• When you target someone with a weapon, green will be displayed if they have full health, yellow at half, and red if they can be killed in another shot. The auto targeting will also make much better choices based on threat level.
• Control territories and make money off your property. Some parts of the game you can take it over yourself, and for other parts you will need your gang.
• Car jacking has an even more threatening and sinister vibe than before, because now your gang is involved.
• On the game map Los Santos is only a tiny bit in the lower right corner.
• You can wear a lot of new clothes.
• Dual wield multiple gun types.
• More mini games.
• Vehicles get rusty and dirty as time goes by.
• Carl's customizations include: Hairstyle, Physique, Weight, Driving Skills, Clothes, Possessions, Weapon Skills, Character, Relationships, and Gang.
• The art team has snuck in plenty of special pictures and messages for fans.
• For the first time in a series the game will adjust its difficulty if the player becomes stuck. Rockstar assures that that the adjustments will be minimal and almost invisible to the players, so the missions won't become a breeze.
• At least once every couple of days your character has to eat. If you skip meals he will be come weak, and if you feed him too much he gets slow and then gets fat. There is a wide selection of places to eat... so what you eat counts as well. Strength will affect his punches, but bulk up at the gym too much and he will loose speed...
• San Andreas has its own version of Hollywood called Vinewood.
• When the OGF fell from power, the new rival gangs The Flats and The Ballas moved in.
• Brian Johnson is CJ's 10 year old brother that died in an accident and the reason he went to Liberty City prison for five years.
• The Johnson family is in disarray as Carl and Kendal can't get along with Sweet.

08/08/2004 LOS SANTOS - The Municipalities courtesy: GameSpot
"The Grove" - Los Santos' South Central, where CJ and the Gang resides. The streets are dirty and the area is really poor.
"Vinewood" - Los Santos' Version of the Hollywood Hills area. Includes in-game replicas of Beverly Hills and Bel-Air. The streets are luxurious and are lined with expensive secenery.
"Rodeo" - The shopping district down "Wilshire Boulevard" and "Rodeo Drive" in Beverly Hills/"Vinewood". Its old fashioned, filthy rich, and the streets are of cobblestone style.
"Downtown" - Downtown Los Santos. Towering Skyscrapers and narrow streets run along this part of town. There is a metrorail/train confirmed called the "Brown Streak" that takes you around Los Santos, yes, ALL OF LOS SANTOS. The Main Station is in Downtown, though.
"The Beach" - Los Santos' representation of Venice Beach & Santa Monica Beach. Swimming is confirmed, and it makes DRIV3R's look like something out of Super Nintendo.
"Freeways" - Los Santos' Massive Interstate Highway & Thruway System that stretches all over the city and beyond. STREET NAMES HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED FOR NAVIGATION.

swimming information
Swim by using the analogue stick and tapping X
CJ treads water by default
Pressing up on the analogue stick makes CXJ swim breaststroke
Pressing Up, and holding X makes CJ swim Freestyle (front crawl). This however is limited, and relies on stamina, similar to running on land.
Pressing O allows you to dive underwater. When underwater, you can press X to swim around and look at marine life etc.
You have an Oxygen meter, a "Breath-O-Meter" while underwater, to let you know when you need to resurface for air.
Lighting effects differ in water, depending on its depth.
Water depth varies on the time of day, place and the weather.
Looking at building from underwater makes them look different too. It may offer secret bonuses.
You can escape from your car if you drive it into water.
You can 'jack' moving boats.
Wave physics have changed. In a storm, the waves are choppy. Boats react differently to different waves.
Other people can swim as well.

robbery
You will not neccessarily earn money after a mission
Robbery is an 'R3' mission. When in a moving truck, you press R3 to start a robbery side-mission.
Robberies only take place at night
You can steal things like a VCR or TV to sell.
When you wear a ski-mask or a balaclava you go into 'sneaking mode' automatically, which allows you to move more quietly.
There will be a noise-meter to show you if you are making too much noise.
New audio techonology, so that if you are eavesdropping, sound will not be as loud. In high-speed chases, sound may be deafening.
Silenced weapons.

For example the character interaction. As stated before by my copy and paste, you can actually stalk a character and watch their lives. As they goto work and meet with other peds and do activities (ie. dancing).
Flashing gangsigns might make you gain respect and some peds will join you.
There are alot of new things that are implimented.

I think it will ofcourse have many same elements,, but how can it not? this is a silly argument.... people that enjoy this game will obviously love it, same as any other game that has a 2nd or 3rd or 4th and so on edition to its titles.... (ie: silent hill 1, 2, 3 and 4 or any other game), it just depends on how much you like it.. me personally am probably going to love this game and it will keep me company when my girlfriend isnt around.

You're just trying to get into the exclusive ''thoughest posters'' club. I'm onto you...
This game just sounds like TOO much fun. I can't imagine them fitting all of this on a Playstation 2 DVD. And yet, they have no reason to lie, nor would that do them any good in the long run. So it's all true.
Does the game support custom soundtracks? I have a harddrive on my PS2, and that thing NEVER gets utilized... too few people have it, I guess. The developers don't want to waste their time on features only 2% of us can use.

its becoming like playing with dolls action figures. Dressing them up, fixing their hair, feeding them, getting a little play house for them, getting the car and all the accesories.
in a lot of ways it's just like a virtual-reality Ken doll with an extra helping of violence.
