Wow, what an amazing game that was against the Czech
Republic. Vincent Lecavalier scores in overtime, and we take
it 4-3. I couldn't believe it when Patrick Elias scored just
SIX SECONDS after Kris Draper put us ahead a goal in the
third. Cardiac fucking arrest.

I love this matchup, Finland is my second favorite hockey
nation. Their captain Saku Koivu is also the captain of the
Montreal Canadiens, and my all-time favorite player, so... I
hate to cheer against that little beautiful bastard, the
Little Viking (he scored the winning goal against the US on
Friday, awesome).

But I have to. This would be an INCREDIBLE upset if they
managed to beat us. It's hard to believe they even beat the
USA. If it they DO beat us, well... seeing Captain Koivu
lead his team to the win would be a nice consolation prize,
especially considering what he's been through.

Anybody following the World Cup? Any Finnish hockey fans
here? Do Swedish hockey fans HATE the Finnish team, is there
a major rivalry there, or would they WANT the Fins to be the
David to our Goliath?

Koivu after scoring the clincher against the US. This
championship game is perfect. Second best Finnish player
ever next to Jari Kurri, for my money, I'd take him over
Teemu Selanne any day.

Maybe you're thinking of Paul Coffey? Maybe the fastest
skating hockey player ever. But he didn't play in
Lillehammer, NHL players weren't allowed to participate in
the Olympics back then (the World Cup has the BEST hockey
players in the world, much tougher teams than there would
have been in Lillehammer, better hockey). Sweden won the
Gold that year,Peter Forsberg with the famous ''stamp''
goal.

Prediction-
Canada 4- Mario Lemieux, Joe Sakic, Martin St. Louis, Shane
Doan
Finland 1- Saku Koivu

i think it will be a much closer final than that... should
be a classic goaltender's matchup... although it could just
as easily be a shootout like it was tonight...

THAT GAME SUCKED, CANADA HAD NO DEFENCE.,., THEY LET THE
CZECHS SCORE RIGHT AFTER THEY DID.,., THE ONLY REASON IT
WASN'T 4-4 WAS CAUSE IT WAS SUDDEN DEATH.,., BUT I'M
CANADIAN AND AM HAPPY.,

Anyone watching the game? Electric atmosphere, this would be
the biggest achievement in Finnish hockey, ever.

But it took only 50 seconds for Canada to draw first
blood... Mario Lemieux showing why he's the second best
hockey player ever. What a pass, boy did he ever thread the
needle.

But anything can happen in the next... 59 minutes.

DAMMIT

Brodeur didn't have much chance on that one, partially
screened and a nice tip. Those Finns are pesky.

Joe Sakic scored the first one on a one timer on a cross ice
pass from Mario Lemieux 52 seconds into the game. Mikko
Eloranta scored for Finland on a screened tip.

And it's now 2-1, Canada. Scott Niedermayer scored a
HORRIBLE goal on Kiprusoff! A 4 on 2, a weak shot from the
top of the circle, beat him five hole... awful. I'd feel bad
for him if that goal turns out to be the game winner... he's
been so good up in the World Cup up to now, and he hasn't
really been BAD in this game... but you CAN'T give up goals
like that in championship games, you just can't.
