Can anyone recommend me a good, new model photo printer?

I am looking for something that can:
- print relatively fast, (I will be using it for school
papers too)
- not consume incredible amounts of ink (lots of prints per
cartridge)
- possibly print larger than 8.5x11 (i.e. 11x14...)
- under $500

Any of you designers have one you are happy with? Any
specific company? Let me know, thanks!

Personally I find it much cheaper generally in the long run
to have prints printed out either online, or at a local
store.

If you are insistant still on buying a photo printer I'd
recommend the HP or Canon printers :)

(Don't be a cheapskate on ink though, don't buy the cheapo
refills, they're never the same quality!)

i got a cheapo little epson photo stylus for like $100, and
i was amazed at how good the pictures look.

i'm sure there are much better printers, but $100 is very
little money.

Large format printing.....hmmmmm. Definately get that done
by another company depending on the quantities you want.

I use:

www.bonusprint.co.uk

....I say that, I'm awaiting my first lot of digitally
printed pics from them. I've not used my printer in about 18
months.

yeah, as jedi chris said, it ends up being much cheaper
(usually) to get your photos printed at a good store. The
amount of money that photo printers cost, the ink cost
(photo printers use a lot of ink per photo) is quite a bit.

I bought an EPSON Stylus C82 printer, it is pretty decent,
nice high quality photo printouts and pretty cheap. The
photo quality isnt the best, but as a personal home printer
it is quite good. And it uses seperate ink cartriges for
black, red, yellow, blue. SO if one colour runs out, you
dont have to buy the whole damn set. And the colours last a
fair while, and a relatively cheap.

Why do you want a photo printer in particular? What type of
quality are you after, and for what purpose? (if you dont
mind me asking)

hope that helped a little.

I'm definitely looking at Epson right now

Staplemouth: I just have tons of personal photos I need to
print in decent quality.

I'd just use a photo-printing shop, otherwise you'll spend a
ton on ink. Depending on how "personal" those photographs
are, anyway :-O
