[xbox] no DOOM 3 this year

Gamespot has posted a blurb from id Software's Todd
Hollenshead stating that DOOM 3 for the Xbox is unlikely to
ship before 2005. Here is his statement:
"It's probably not going to come out this year," Hollenshead
told Reuters today. "Back in May, we were kind of hoping
we'd have a holiday launch. I'm not sure we're going to get
there." Previously, Hollenshead had not leaned one way or
the other, offering only neutral statements such as, "It is
still up in the air" or "We can't say, at this point, that
it's going to come out this year."

Hollenshead's latest statement seems to be a concession that
id will again take its time to bring Doom 3 to market.
That is indeed sad news for those kiddies out there hoping
to get a little DOOM 3 goodness in their stockings this
year. Hopefully it doesn't slip too far into 2005.

Hl2 is preloading to Steam users from.... TOMORROW!

It's only Textures and sounds and shit which isn't going to
change but surely it's a sign that the release is fucking
imminent!

OH SHIT I CAN'T WAIT!

preloading..?

that must mean that quite a massive amount of people have
already bought the game, right?

I believe so. I'm waiting to see where I can pre-order the
collectors edition from. There's word of cool stuff inside.
Possibly a live Head Crab!

when I used to play counter-strike, about a year ago, I was
an admin on a friends server. one of the admin-commands was
to spawn one of the HL-monsters almost directly next to a
player of choice.

it would be especially fun to warp in a head crab next to a
camper, giving players heart-attacks. endless hours of fun.

it was supposed to preload yesterday

and then the week before, and before that

dont get yer hopes up.

Wicked!

elusive: I'm just going by the info I've had. The preload
was meant for last week but they changed it because of the
way the CS:S preload had gone and the amount of info they
were getting back. I'm getting my hopes up anyway.

there's no news of a preload on steampowered.com..

LAZY_TITLE

It's on steampowered somewhere. Gabe Newell posted some
dates and then put a correction in.

yeah, but still, if they are really going ahead with this,
you'd at least expect some kind of heads-up in the
news section of steampowered.

Admittedly but then the preload of CS:S wasn't mentioned on
there till the day is happened.

What is "preload" please friends?

as far as I can ascertain it is part of the game that you
can already download - in itself this has no use until you
have the whole thing, but it supposedly will take off some
of the pressure the Steam servers surely will feel when the
game is released officially.

That blows.

Oh well, Halo was destined to suck away most of my FPS
playing time anyway, that's the BIG daddy... I'll survive.
And hopefully I'll get a nice PC for Christmas so I can have
my cake and eat it too.

Halo is the big daddy?

DOOM made this genre (well to be technical, HoverTank 3D was
the first FPS game, made by id Software also)

DOOM is literally, the daddy

An old game I used to play on atari 800 XL computer. Two
player split screen game using first person perspective. Not
what you were thinking right?

well it says Atari 7800 there, but anyways that's not a
First Person Shoot 'Em Up

looks cool though, for 1987 :)

The same game was available for my computer. But yeah. It
was actually very challenging when played with another
person. Ahead of it's time really.
