electronic burnout

Our minds have gained a tolerance to electronic music.
We're bored cause we can't find that fix we got after
getting that feeling which got us into this music in the
first place. That's my take on it. I used to adore autechre
because their tracks were such a mind fuck for me. Now i'm
burnt out. That sense of wonder that makes my hairs stand on
end is gone. I've been getting into more electro acoustic
stuff and reconnecting with rap and insturmental hip hip...
hopefully these will keep my interest for a while. Haven't
gone knee deep in rock yet. And when it comes to mainstream
stuff, I'm mostly out of the loop. I can't have a meaningful
conversation with my friends about the stuff I like and vice
verca. I think i'm losing my love for this genre. Anyone
else feel the same?

To be honest there hasn't been a really good IDM album this
year.

I agree... I mean I haven't heard them all.. but I haven't
seen any extremely good reviews on albums either...

I could get into jazz, but discretly. I have a friend who
became a rabid jazz fan within the last year. If he found
out i'm looking into it he'll shove it down my throat for
sure. I guess that shouldn't piss me off but it does.

Strange how you can take advice or suggestions from certian
people but not from others. Maybe it's because I sense a
power struggle behind the motives of some... Hard to explain

all music atm does not do what it used to do
i find far to much new music very boring and tedious
i could listen to most stuf brought out now 3 times and be
done with it

there's always good new music to be found, "new" as in "new
to me", whether it be newly brought out music or older
stuff.

it all depends on how well you are looking, I guess.

I can't see how any of this can be a worry, really.

Mertens is saying he's "losing his love for this genre" -
that sounds like a worry to me.

I am a bit concerned, yes. Maybe the quality is staying the
same but my standards aren't.

Hopefully enough people to keep this topic going. Excluding
yourself of course.

Listen to nothing but Hard House and Goa for a month then go
back to your art techno. I don't concentrate on any one
genre skipping between Noise to Euro-pop and Grindcore to
Ambiant. I get all the best stuff on vinyl so it's not too
convenient for me to listen to, stops me overplaying it like
an mp3 on loop. If I stick to one style of sound it seems to
just stop going into my head as I get used to it too.

Hard House? Is that similar to micro house?

no, it's kind of a cross between industrial and house... the
beats are very heavy, sort of hardcore like...

i can think of one decent idm album that has come out this
year... that would be Team Doyobi's Choose Your Own
Adventure... but there have been plenty of decent electronic
albums... particularly in the electro-acoustic vein... but
yeah, what the hell, i say go with Teapot's suggestion and
dig some john coltrane up... or just jazz in general... or
really anything old... as qrter said.... there's always
going to be musical areas where you are uneducated...
umpteen treasure troves of beauty, both new and old, to be
discovered...

Just buy any 2CD mix that Nukleuz.com release, BK springs to
mind tho. I like Hard House but after 2 or 3 DJ mix CDs your
pretty much covered, I don't own much on vinyl because it's
pretty common around here. It would be as pointless as
getting into Drum n Bass heavily.
