[religion] What are you?

What religion do you follow? If you don't follow a
religion where do you gain your ideologies from? Are you
proud of your religious background? How strictly do you
follow your religion? Have you changed religion from the
one you were born into?

i began my life as an anglican, who said his prayers every
night... first a little song that went "lord keep us safe
this night...", and then the "Our father, who art in
heaven..." one, and then i did my "god bless"ing... but the
thing is that for the most part i really kind of hurried
through it, and for the longest time i just sand
"lorkeebahsafethisnight...", and my godblessing was
shortened to "God bless me, my family and my friends..." and
then in a stroke of suckupy genius, i would say, "... and
God... bless you"... ha, i'll bet i got in his good books
for that one! but anywho, it eventually occurred to me that
certain parts of that whole thing didn't make a whole lot of
sense... and you know, the whole teen rebellion thing... so
i became an atheist... but i don't know, straight up atheism
seems so goddamned unpleasant, and just doesn't adhere with
what i feel from the world, so gradually, over time, i've
slowly crept back into a degree of non-descript
spirituality... i'd say that at this point, my beliefs are
probably pretty similar to most pantheistic eastern
religions, where i feel like we can all feel each other
because we are all estranged parts of a greater collective
whole... i believe in vibes, and music, and art, and beauty
and maybe i'm fooling myself, but i think that you are
fooling yourself if you think you can believe in anything
with absolute certainty, that includes science and
determinism and atheism and the whole mutherfucking
shebang... yuh dig?
ultimately it doesn't make a lick of difference what we
believe, because what we think we believe and what we really
believe as reflected through the manner in which we perceive
and respond to our surroundings are to very very different
things...

i don't follow any religion. My parents were non-religious,
but now mum is much into esoteric shite, from qi-gong to
some tae-kwan-do (no, she can't fight:) with a group of
housewives (though my mother isn't a housewife) and what
they do is much like religion, despite her and her friends'
objections to such a comparison. And one of my two sisters
goes to a filial of some american church, but says she is
attendin' it only for her friends, many of which can be
found inside. She agrees with the point that there is no
god, but at first she developed a doubt for that. It's good
that she's back with us sarcastic atheists:)

that fucking church sucks, i must say. Once i went there
with my sister to watch some movie there in the church. This
appeared to be Beautiful Mind, which I have already seen 2
times. After the movie ends, there's a guy of around 28
years old who gets his ass in front of everybody (a dozen of
teenagers and me) and begins to tell everybody that the
director of the movie lied, and that the movie hero when
speaking his Nobel awards speech, has referred to God
instead of his wife as the main helper in his life and so
on, shite, shite and shite goes out from his mouth.
When i told my sister that i was angry with this guy, she
told me that after every film they watch in the church, he
gets his ass in front of everybody and explains the lies of
movie directors. That was what he did after watching Matrix
#1. Hahaha. Blue pill - you choose no god, red pill - you
choose god. Or vice versa.
They should watch Troma movies, i think.

(my longest post so far)

i was baptised catholic in order to please my grandmother.
but i don't really believe in anything. i've kind of
explored everything i wanted to in organised religion.

the problem that i have with them is the evangelistic aspect
- i'm not comfortable with organisations (however
commendable their moral stance) attempting to convert other
people to their belief-system; this is essentially what all
religions do.. otherwise they cease to exist.

for me, there's nothing worse than an evangelist. that's why
i won't call myself an athiest either. it seems like too
much of a badge to me. i don't have the energy to waste
evangelising against organised religion or against the
belief in a god or power that i don't share with others.
there are far more positive ways of channeling your energy.

to me, someone who god-bashes at every opportunity is just
as irritating as someone who constantly tells you how good
their god is.

none of it matters to me really. as i said, i explored it as
far as i wanted to. i have a big problem with organised
religions, as most of them seem to end up corrupt. i have no
problem with people following their own personal codes and
beliefs as long as there are no negative repercussions for
anyone else.

personally, i don't feel the need to have my moral code
designated for me by someone/something else. that incinuates
that i'm not responsible or autonomous enough to define my
own set of standards by which i live.

im becoming quite spiritually devoted. what my mind and
heart tell me is that all faiths pursue the same god, and
that the differences only lie in their perception.

I believe in spirits and other dimensions but I'm not sure
what happens when you die, we'll see... I did a
religion-test once on the internet and it turned out I was
closest to a neo-pagan. But I don't do any special rituals
such as praying, worshiping or anything like that. So I
don't know if I am in a special religious group. I don't
even like the idea of being in one

i was a very strong athiest for a long time. I wasnt
baptised or anything at birth and still am not. Mum is
muslim, but doesnt practice at all. Dad is church of england
and doesnt practice at all.

i was pretty strong athiest most of my life, but i was
always scared of what if i was wrong. But about 3 years ago
i met my girlfriend and she was/is a strong christian. I
started scoping out churches and what not and reading up a
lot of information etc.

Long story short, I consider myself a christian now. But i
dont go to church because quite frankly the place scares me,
and i dont go telling people they should convert or
anything. Im quite happy with whatever choice people want to
make.

Since I have become a christian, i dont feel better, but i
have this urge to be a better person than i have been in the
past. and it just kind of feels right for me.

but i also think some buddhist values are worth taking note
of, and even some nihilistic ones too. coming from a strong
athiest past i am not your average christian.

but whatever you want to choose is your choice and i respect
that.

i was baptised protestant, but not really caring about it,
it was mostly because of my mother, grandparents etc.... now
i think i'm probably something like agnostic, or atheist.
maybe there is "something", but several things, that could
be considered as "god(s)" if you want, maybe some physical
or metaphysical forces, maybe aliens, maybe the Mighty Bowl
Of Creation, who knows. maybe there is nothing.

i highly doubt, and would highly dislike, this
god/heaven/hell idea - seems like living in a world governed
by an almighty dictator for eternity.

anyway, the social phenomenon of religion is very
interesting (as well as scary)... how these things got so
important, and how people follow them with such a strong
faith sometimes... the most intriguing thing imo is that
most people prefer to follow an already existing religion
than have their own beliefs - and i'm not sure this is a
good thing at all...
