I'm watching SOTL right now funnily enough. Hannibal's an OK
movie, the book was a bit duff anyway so they were onto a
loser from the start. I watched Red Dragon last week and I
thought it was poor, the director didn't seem to have a
clue. I still think Red Dragon is the best book, Silence the
best film.

OMGS! I was going to make a thread about this cos I watched
it last night too! Yes a let down, I agree. The brain eating
scene was skanky. I dare say that I was actually hoping for
more violence... and possibly a car chase somewhere.

Hannibal fries the tender piece with some garlic ,white vino
and herbs. mmmm... i can almost smell it.

from what i've heard the book its based on is crap too so...
Ridley Scott has it in him to make amazing films which is
what makes it even more annoying when he keeps making crap

Hannibal wasnt great, but it was ok. seemed to take forever
to get going. Funnily enough, watching hannibal he'd me make
sense of SOTL - saw it a long time ago :)

the brain bit was good, because it was such a shock to start
with, but then you couldn't resist looking at his open
skull.

it was only in this film that i realised how obsessed
hannibal was with clarice - like cutting his own hand off...

I was let down by Mason Verger and how he was portrayed in
teh film. When I heard Gary Oldmna was laying him I thought
nice. But it just ended up shit.

I agree.
ALien and Blade Runner was awesome but it stopped there.

Gladiator was a OK movie but not even worth being in the
same sentence as his two masterpieces./ ^

Gladiator is poor compared to those two, actually thinking
about it its poor compared to a lot of films...

I've not seen all of Gladiator, but from i have seen i cant
imagine it being as ground-breaking (maybe a little
exaggerated?) as alien and blade runner.

it doesn't come close, it has some nice scenes and thats it.
the story really doesn't hold together at all, its also very
repetative

I don't know what it is about Alien, but I really don't like
it. I find the enitre Alien series very tedious and somewhat
unwatchable. Blackhawk Down I feel is a great accomplishment
by Ridley Scott, not becuase of the storyline but because of
the characters. In Blackhawk Down I actually cared if
somebody died unlike many other war movies. The camera work
in Blackhawk Down was also engrossing, which I think is a
key part to a good film. I agree with all of you saying that
Blade Runner is one of his best, as it is such a good
combination of everything entertaining. I find that Ridley
is excellent at creating suspense, and this is shown in all
of his films.

Hannibal (the novel) is not especially good, but there is
certainly a lot more to it than the film.
More character background, development & a far less
pointless ending (which they changed for the film, probably
due to time restrictions).

The movie wasn't great, nor was it horribly bad. Good
visuals and exellent atmosphere but without Jody Foster it
could only be a let down. It was never scary, but then,
neither was Silence of the Lambs.
Red Dragon was a very decent flick, I liked it much better
then Michael Mann's Manhunter.
