recently the xlt member known as "big" viewed a video on our site entitled "adventures in stupidy". during this video there's a 4 frame clip of a goth kid kicking a pigeon. big took it upon himself to spam my board with messages about how he's going to mail PETA so they can "take action" against the site. he stated his reason as "it gives across a negative message". first i'd just like to ask mr. big who exactly is that message going to? as far as I know, children that are at the age when they're gullible and imitate things, aren't exactly an IDM crowd, and i estimate approximately 0 people under the age of 18 browse the site. secondly, i'd like to state that anyone who bases their ideology off a WMV they download from an mp3 label needs to kill themself before they even finish reading this sentence. cut the back of your knees, not your wrists, that way the paramedics can't save you. :D the reason i'm upset is that this kind of mentality represents everything that's wrong with the world today. instead of just doing the unthinkable and CLOSING THE FUCKING WINDOW, he wants to make it so nobody else can view it as well. people like this are the same kind of people that got family guy and howard stern taken off the air. you know, that attitude "if i can't enjoy it, neither can anybody else". now, normally i'd pass this off as yet another faggot not liking my website because of their own insecurities, however this presents a problem. i hate ultra-liberals almost as much as i hate ultra-conservatives. there is NO way we're going to go through the shitloads of effort to decompress already compressed video just to edit out .5 seconds. ... |

****THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART*** i do not run this site for any personal gain. i lose both alot of money and time by running it, and it usually brings me more frustration than anything else. running an idm mp3 label does not cause bitches to suck my cock, it does not give me a fast car, OR a nice house. i'm doing it simply because i like alot of the music i hear on xltronic. IF I AT ANY POINT FEEL THAT OWNING THIS WEBSITE CAN NEGATIVELY AFFECT MY LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE INTERNET, I WILL NOT HESITATE TO TAKE DOWN THE ENTIRE SITE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE! that's right, big. if you email PETA, and i get hassled with something like a lawsuit, the entire site goes bye-bye. it's easier for me to just get my money back for the months i haven't used (my server is an old friend and i've already explained the situation to him) than bend over backwards to edit some video footage to please an aging liberal hippie faggot. i like running this site, i like good free music, but i am NOT dealing with those hypocritical animal rights terrorists. in the event that this happens i will also leave a single page up, one explaining the situation containing a link to big's email address. we get 150,000 hits a month. think long and carefully before you do something you'll regret for a long time. |

big is OK...maybe he was just a little shocked. There is no need for this to blow up into yet another net war. Maybe if you were to add a disclaimer stating that there are images some people may find offensive or disturbing in the video then it would stop people veiwing it if they are that way inclined. Perhaps big acted in haste and didn't think through his actions. Cockear you provide a very good service to a number of music makers on this board and I know it is fully appreciated by all of them plus the vast number of visitors to your site. This sort of thing happens occassionally, the best thing to do is try to take it with good humour and not let it effect you too much...the support you receive will always be vastly greater than the opposition. |

Well, as I mentioned, there aren't really any autechre like artists on aud-stim and given that you for personal reasons obviously dislike me (probably because I am better person than you) and have made a point of having a dig at me in previous topics making reference to my autechre sounding experiments I don't think it was too wide an assumption to make. I am really not arguing for censorship... All I am saying is that he is responsible for his actions. If enjoys watching the pigeon geting kicked and wants other people to take part in the pigeonkicking - so be it. The pigeonkicking itself is a whole other thing and I don't support it in any way... I mean I know people can get pretty irritated if nature comes close to them (and that in a way shows how fragile humans are) and try to stop nature from getting close to them - but this just seem to be kicking 'for fun'... Summary : * I am against censorship (until it gets extreme) * I am against people hurting others without a reason (art; recording the event, is not a good reason [today]) |
