Looking to invest in some quality headphones.

Any recommendations? price range is sort of top of the
middle of the range, i suppose - around £100 tops but
preferably less.

Enlighten me, oh knowledgeable ones.

headphones

I got some nice sennheisers from here.

I can't remember the model though.

They're great. About £100 :D

Wireless would be pretty sweet. But would that degrade the
sound quality?

I don't know the answer to that. I don't see why it would.
Although batteries could be heavily used.

Cheers giginger. Would that be Sennheiser HD590s, perchance?

Checked on the site and they look right :D

I'll check when I get home and post here. Check in the shop
too. Try them on. They're always helpful in those places.

Oooh you got new Senns then? :D

Vletr: What are they for primarily? DJing, Studio Work or
Just Listening?

Yeah, Richer Sounds are one of my favourite chains. They
seem to have a policy of not employing knowledgeless dicks
who are full of themselves (unlike many hi-fi/gear stores).

Headphones needed for production work (Fruity Loops + Sound
Forge), especially mixing (although I am aware that
mastering etc needs speakers), and listening too.

Also, I am an appreciator of bass frequencies, and my
current headphones are somewhat lacking in this respect.

i don't like the way those sennheisers look

the last ones someone showed me looked like some headphones
that would come with a turntable you bought in the 70s

Ha ha, no one likes how Sennheisers look. This is how they
trick people into buying similair priced sony/technics
models- which sound utter gash in comparison!

oh so their business moto is "let's hope people buy our ugly
ass headphones instead of our competitions better looking
ones"?

I don't give a shit how good they look anyway. I want
headphones for serious
holed-up-in-your-bedroom-for-a-whole-fucking-weekend
production geekery, not prancing around the city centre in
my sunglasses listening to royksopp!

If aesthetics are the overriding factor in you buying audio
gear, fair enough, but I find it genuinely funny that people
buy stuff for the look rather than sound.

The thing is, £100 Sony DJing headphones do not even come
close to HD25s (you certainly notice it if you play anywhere
with a loud sound system) in terms of functionality (and no,
this isn't a matter of "taste", it's a simple fact) and yet
they sell loads, because:
A) A lot of people haven't heard of Sennheisers, whereas
Sony are a well known brand.
B) People buy them because they look good.

Cheers for the info Ceri. Been looking at the Richer Sounds
headphones page:

Sennheiser HD25SP £79.95
Sennheiser HD590 £99.95

Do you reckon the 590's are worth the extra £20?

I'm quite poor at the moment. But goddamn, I love listening
to Autechre on headphones. My own productions even more so.
:P

I've used the HD25sp (sort of cheaper version of the hd25,
still very good), but I've not used the 590s, so I don't
know whether it's worth the extra cost (ask giginger, he has
used both). Either would be great though.

I just thought I should let this piece of info slip:
according to a audiomagazine here in Norway, senheiser are
planning on lowering the prices on most of their models. If
you wait for a while, you'll be able to get them cheaper.

bose: I don't trust that company.. they make those "surround
with two speakers (speakers the size of an egg)" thingies.
It's utter bullshit!

Yep, I don't trust bose either. They have shit ratings on
Audioreview.com, basically I think they have an inflated
reputation from the 80's, and they suck now.

The Bose "Wave Cancellation" thing on those does work
(although it's not complete and utter silence). My mate has
some and they're good for listening.
