my best track in months - criticism please

yeah, i'm really proud of this. i was at the squarepusher
show last night when i had a revelation - i should make my
melodies as intricate as my beats. i would much like some
critique on this, please.

You're right- this is some of your best stuff!

I love the stuttering melody. It's almost like it been
programmed on a tracker, but retained a highly melodic
quality.

The beats complement it really. Some people might find
having a stuttering melody and stuttery beats at once, but
the kick drum is strong enough to give enough of a reference
point to the listener.

The breakdown at 2:21 is perfect, just what the track needs
and it doesn't go on for too long (a criticism I'd make of
breakdowns, particularly "amateur tracks" is that they often
go on too long). Sweet ending too.

An awesome track. I insit you bump this tommorow for the day
folks. I've been working on a "videogamey" track myself to
night and I was pretty chuffed with it, but it's nowhere
near as good as this. Tops marks mate.

hello, mr. Gus Young.

definately one of your best tracks, yes. The only thing is
that it somehow makes me yearn for.. you know that
Aphex-track on drukqs where the volume goes mute-on-mute-on,
and it fucks your head up right towards the end of the
track? do that at the end of this one, only moderated to
suit the beat...

its nice n jittery......

i was expecting some real sweeping synth lines a-la autechre
(grabage ep) .... but thats just me......

great stuff though

It sounds like there are only four or five tracks in this
tune. I'd like more sounds personally. Seems a bit stark. It
needs some bass too. And more effects (but I'm an effects
junkie).

I don't agree with DrunkenMastah's suggestion of Mt. Saint
Michel style effects at the end. I think it could do with a
harmony at the end with a nice smooth synth.

Not a bad tune though.

The pic on your Zebox page (which I assume is you) looks
very much like a guy I know called Gordon Bromley.

Fucker slept on our sofa for a week doing nothing but
smoking weed and playing video games.

"Fucker slept on our sofa for a week doing nothing but

We used to have a
couple of "friends" like that. We ended up kicking them out
on the grounds that we had work to do.

Very good track. The only thing that might improve it is a
bar or two here and there where everything drops out except
for a sad wheezing organ or slappy guitar a la Cowboy
Sugarcakes.

I don't like this as much as jitterbug, but it's still a
good track. It's quite like Bogdan Raczynski. It's a good
track, just not my type of music.

Listening to Jitterbug now. Its good. Reminds me of
something else. Not too keen on the clashing notes but
that's probably just me ears. BAM! Good track and very
impressively done. Excellent mix. Nothing seems too forward.

Problematic sounds like a b-side to jitterbug. I think I
prefer this one in some way. Was this made about he same
time as Jitterbug? They sounds very similar to me. BAM!

problematic is a good track. You are very good at doing fast
beats, this is something I have not yet completely mastered.
How many bpm is problematic at?

yeah, it's at 180 bpm. i use sound recorder for more
intricate beats, also hammerhead for more focused stuff.

by the way folks, one more:
Rock Like A Golem
It's very fast and loud, so if you don't like that style, be
prepared for massive auditory assault of the eardrums.

i think the melodies at the beginning could match up better
, but it gets way cool about halfway through where the

radical

Incredible Jitterbug Man: I'm liking it. Kinda playful
paradinas-ish melody. The first minute or so works
especially well. You have quite a distinctive style, very
"full" of sound. My only real criticism is with the
changeover in beats at 2:03, it feels a bit jarring. Nice
stuff.
