Some of you may remember an earlier thread of mine known as XLTronic LITE... I have taken that idea to a new level of low-tech posting... I currently have.... NO MOUSE! That's right, for the past 2 days I have been using the arrow, Alt, Tab, and backspace keys to navigate webages. At first you wonder how people ever got along with computers before the mouse, but you'd get used to it if only it didn't make virtually every game unplayable... oh well, got a new one on the way that will blow any mouse I've ever owned away. heh

I'm not doing this on purpose btw, my old mouse finally stopped working for good after putting me through two weeks of constant annoyance by crapping on and off, so I smashed it against my wall once I realized that MicroShaft made it a physical IMPOSSIBILITY for the damn thing to be taken apart by any civilized means.

nah... it's a very old school web browser.
" A Web browser that only displays text and is accessed by using a keyboard instead of a mouse. Lynx users will not be able to see images or hear sounds, and may not see a Web page in its intended format. It is commonly used by those who are visually impaired, have slower connections to the Internet, or do not want all the graphics displayed (graphics take a lot of time to download on slower connections). Lynx is ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compatible. "

I like the look of xlt through lynx. The loading speed must be phenominal. Sometimes I use IE with all plugins and pics turned off, but it doesn't come with that funky 80s shell style colour scheme. It looks kinda like IRC, which is nice.

no
OS X is UNIX
it has a Darwin base system, which is BSD derivative
therefore it is actual UNIX
:)
not tenuous at all

yes. BSD is a flavor of unix, kinda. and osx has components of BSD.
while it's not exactly 100% correct, it's definately not a huge stretch to say that console apps in osx are UNIX apps.

Ok, I beleive you. I would nearly be tempted to buy a mac, except for:
1)can't close a window with just clicking [x]. 2)one mouse button (why?) 3)looks hmm well a bit crappy, kinda faux futuristic+pure?? both gui and case.
I'm currently making my own distro, based on slackware, and a few other bits, to fit onto a USB keyring drive thingy.
Just basically bash, mc (best prog ever) and a few other tools, as well as /sbin /bin and all that. small gcc and basic coms tools (parallel coms) etc. maybe ftpd I dunno yet.
I'm thinking of getting a 128mb drive for a linux boot/dev/rescue device.

1) yes you can close a window by just clicking x
you're talking about closing an application, and you don't understand how programs operate in Mac OS :p
2) One mouse button is simple for people to learn how to use. You can buy a multiple button USB mouse, plug it in, and there you go, all the mouse buttons you want - and YES you do get a right-click menu
3) you can change the look of the OS with themes
a new distro? hmm sounds interesting, and on a USB flash drive!!!!!!!
That would be SPEEDY!!!!!!!!
would you consider making a PPC version?
;)

no. do your own :p
oh and i meant close an application with the [x] . The way I see it, and bear in mind I rarely use macs, the [x] just makes the window vanish, like minimize but more hidden. It doesnt kill the app, so when you logoff, it says do you wanna save blah from2 hours ago, and it just annoys me,popping up when you least expect it, kinda like the mac version of the ms paperclip
I know its the way macs do it, but why? seems convoluted.

yeah that's the point
you need to understand the program concept in Mac OS
an application window isn't regarded as the application, it is an application document.
when you close the "document" (window) you're just closing that one window
how far through are you with this USB Flash distro? are you making a website about it? i'd be interested to read any notes you may have published online regarding this endeavor

purely theoretical at the moment, due to time constraints (i.e. lack of time)
Over the bank holiday I will be building my homebrew ring modulator (with internal sq.wave osc from a 4046).
based around a basic ring mixer similar to here and some of my own design.
then after that, maybe. but still gotta buy the flash drive!
