Every time I hear this after a long break from not hearing
it, I realize that this type of music by aphex is the best
"music" music there is IMO. It's the best thing to study to
know how to do it right. He is a genuine master at his
craft. I've heard the album numerous times before so I can
finally start to pick it apart mentally without being
overwhelmed by it all hitting together at once. What it is
is very much a sum of parts. Initially it's hard to notice
(for me) because I see the grand whole all at once. But when
new parts come in, you can hear the old parts continue in
the background. They add to the new parts but you barely
notice they're the same. This is probably obvious... and how
conventional tracks are most often made even, but I guess
everything happens so fast and uh, profoundly interwoven
that it's nice to make any sense of how one could possibly
go about creating something like this. I was mostly
concentrating on listening to the melody this time. He is a
fantastic melody writer. The melody in these tracks is some
of the best I've ever heard anywhere. There's the obvious
melody in the front, but there's probably two more melodic
parts hidden somewhere in the fabric that you don't notice
at first, and are probably almost hard to single out until
you find them. Even track.. um 4, well the bouncing ball one
sounds fantastic when you concentrate on the subtler melody.

bla.

he's probably the most complete (melodies, drum
programing...) artist in the electronic scene.
imo

come to daddy is a fantastic ep!

Do you all think this release is underrated just because its
the most mainstream release?

I like it best when combined with the video. Especially when
the aphex youngsters are rattling the metalfence in
concordance with the drumbeat. Lush stuff. Still my vote for
best musicvideo ever.
Cunningham really should do a fullblown movie some day. Like
neuromancer for example :(

i like the part in the video when its showing some buildings
and the video seems to mess up and fade out a little bit,
and goes with the music exactly.

Yes no doubt about it tolstoyed, I for one was introduced to
idm through Come to Daddy.

However, I do think Come to Daddy is overshadowed by his
other releases...SAWII, RDJ Album, Drukqs.

At least, I hear more praise for those albums than Come to
Daddy.

Prior to CTD, mentioning Aphex resulted in blank stares &
"never heard of them"(sic)...

either of those releases on this board.

windowlicker.

i never really liked the opening track. the voice ruined it
for me. the rest of the ep is amazing though, with the
except of funny little man.

oops, I was referring to the album not the track. In fact, I
tend to skip that track. Stuff like the contour regard mix
really applies to what I was talking about. Aphex positions
stuff really well in time, plus knows just which notes to
use.. even weird sounds not necessarily notes.

come to daddy is often overlooked i think because it is the
most commercial release he did I think.. maybe RDJ album is
too... both classic... come2daddy is a fav of mine.. er one
of my favs.
