i got a problem with my computer, it comes up with a blue screen and says "unmountable boot volume"
now i looked up ways of fixing it and restoring it seems to be the only answer, but not a good enough one for me
is there a way where i can fix this problem without losing all my stuff?
i mean, all my songs, vids, stories, and library of lush IDM cannot be lost

someone help gwely dammit! i had similar problems a long time ago, and a computer feller helped me save my mp3s... i'm sure it can be done... particularly if you're running xp... you may even be able to access most of your files from a defunct version of xp from a reinstalled version....

Yeah, don't worry, all your stuff is still there, calling out your name and waiting for you. If it's XP, and you have the disc, press R at setup and maybe do a chkdsk /p or chkdsk /r at the prompt. If that doesn't work, try fixboot.
I've been working for HP for 5 months (laid off the other day, whoo, time to enjoy my winnings), and I saw about 2-3 of these errors a day, it's no biggie. Usually we just sent out a recovery console disc to the suckers, because those computers don't come with XP discs.

I lost 3 months of music and some visual video pieces I was going to use when playing live and its all GONE. Had to completely format. But in the end it just made me make more shit faster. And now I know to back it all up.

Well, i fixed the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME and with my luck, i was left with a new problem, after loading up, the screen just goes black and my computer farts for about an hour (i turned it off after this time)
I was able to load up with safemode and here i am.
i remember Ophecks new a thing or two about this, so if you see this, please share a word on it.
thanks.

if you can logon in safe mode... then there's something wrong with your OS, or a driver loaded at startup.

i had this problem with my girlfriends machine
unfortunately the only fix i found was reformatting the hard drive
you can probably back up your drive contents by putting the drive in another computer as a slave drive and copy the data from your drive onto the other computer's drive

i'm not sure if you will actually be able to back up your data
you should be able to though
you see the problem is that Windows says it's an unmountable drive.....you don't just need to mount a drive to boot up - you need to mount a drive just to access it at even the most basic level.
if you can get another machine to recognize the drive then you can backup your data, but if not then you've lost the lot.
and people wonder why i go on so much about how shit Windows is?!
lol
