been watching kill bill again... and got inspired.
is there any good music coming out in japan? i mean... there must be! but i don't know of any.
i've tried going here for suggestions, but honestly i don't get much of it.
recommendations appreciated! popish or electroish preferably. i'm not very much into punk or rock...

• Boredoms (crazyness, formerly whatever-like going in every direction possible and self-destructing - more recently, psychedelic and more listenable =))
• Merzbow (you should know by now, since it has been discussed a lot of times here ^^.... noise. hören mit schmerzen. only for trained, resistant, warned and very open-minded ears! : ) it does grow on you if you like, though... i've been listening to Merzbow since months now and it's still growing.)
• Ken Ishii (techno. check out the album 'Sleeping Madness', it's excellent!)
• Ikue Mori (experimental.... i don't know her well, only from SYR 5 - and a wonderful album called 'One Hundred Aspects Of The Moon', sadly out of print but if you can get your hands (or at least your mouse...) on it, get it!!)
• Noriko Tujiko (a quite particular sound, pretty "aerial" and with some electronic sounds... you can say it's pop, but in no way "electro-clash" like at all... some people think she's a bit reminding of Björk. personally, i don't think she is as good as Björk, and she's very different, but it's very nice and refreshing music - worth checking out!)
• Otomo Yoshihide (i don't know him well... only a few tracks, which are experimental. and i have "Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Quintet - Flutter", which is nice...)
• Melt-Banana (hardcore, or something like that. with a female singer who has a voice like an anime character. their latest album, Cell-Scape, has 8 hxc songs, an intro and a last 10-minute-track which is electro and excellent as well - i love it. =))
i might have forgotten a few i know already... there is Sachiko M too, she has made an album entirely out of sine waves... Mono, a "post-rock" band (Ã la Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky and all this stuff)... there is good stuff in japanese rock too apparently but i don't know well enough...

i've seen eX-Girl and Melt Banana live three times each! i win!
eX-Girl has a recent album on Mike Patton's label, Ipecac Recordings and they opened for Fantomas on at least one tour a few years ago. they're an eclectic-sounding band - weird, skewed pop.

and i forgot a very good band - OOIOO! it is an all-female quartet, with Yoshimi P.We of Boredoms =)
i have Feather Float. if you like later style Boredoms, be sure to check this out even if it's bit different.

another one i forgot - there is Ryoji Ikeda too...
he makes very minimalistic experimental electronic music. with experiments on sounds, like some track which sonority changes depending on where the listener is situated in the room where the track is played etc.. - don't expect melodic nor danceable stuff, it's laboratory-like.
http://brainwashed.com/ryoji/
and Kuwayama & Kijima - violin and cello players who record in usual places... i have an album by them, on the Trente Oiseaux label, which features them playing at the bottom of a highway at midnight - synchronizing with the cars. so in total improvisation. and i think they're pretty skilled. (the album just lacks a real beginning and a real ending - but that's understandable, with the concept...)

more artists from japan(I think): - Aube (noisy, experimental) - Tetsu Innue (glitchy ambient) - Isao Tomita (classical music on synths and other synthy stuff)
- Toshimaru Nakamura (experimental, made an album using no inputs on the mixing board(buzzy noises))
