I consider buying the reissue of James Brown's Live at the
Apollo. Anyone heard it? I have no James Brown records in my
collection but it looks like this record is the one
everybody should own...

thats it I'm getting it! ...it should go along nice with
Miles Davis' "On the corner" then?

probably.

(vague answer: my memory when it comes to track and album
titles is short. I remember only the ones I've listened to
for a year for some reason.. but I mostly don't remember
tracknames AT ALL...)

bare?!"

apparently if you play the james brown live cd and listen
really carefully during the clapping at 3:45 on track 7, you
can hear him go offstage and start beating his wife

Get in the jungle groove instead. Live at the apollo is
good, but in the jungle groove is da bomb or something.

I was just going to call you a fucking liar because James
Brown is dead...then I realised two things.

i) you weren't referring to attanding a live performance.
ii) James Brown ain't dead fool.

So in future think before you post.

Yeah, I made that mistake before. I was thinking of Barry
White for some reason (who is dead)...

I was thinking of Jimi Hendrix when I opened the topic for
some reason.

An ex-flatmate of mine has a copy of Hendrix's death
certificate framed on the family dining room. His grandad
did Hendrix's autopsy.

That's such a lovely thing to have in you dining room...what
have they got for the table centerpeice? A mummified hand or
something like that?

No, the only other real oddity about the house is that I
smash my forhead onto door frames all the time there. They
live in some 17th century cottage which must of been made
for dwarves I really have to stoop about 4 inches each time
I go through doors. Even his mum who is the tallest is only
about 5'6".

I keep meaning to get a copy of that so I can play it at the
next house party/whatever, once he is actually dead.

seemingly normal doorframes :D

6'2". I only normally have to stoop at castles, but that's
normal.

hehe I'm only two inches taller than you and I scrape my
head on door frames all the time. Mind you I have a habit
for smashing my face on things whether sober or drunk, day
or night.

I don't think before I do stuff. I was away working on a
server config in a call centre yesterday and I managed to
hit the display board with my head as I was running out for
a ciggie. Breaking the display board and giving myself a
headache. My general balance is a bit poor at the moment as
well. I keep falling over.

In the old days James Brown used to make his bandmembers pay
a fine of 5$ something out of their paychecks everytime they
made a mistake live.
On old live recordings if you listen carefully you can hear
him say stuff like "I heard that man!" and chuckle , but its
really vague and mumbly among his other spontanious
"aaaahhh" uuuhhh" "gonna kiss myself" so the audience never
noticed it.
They showed examples of it in a documentary , he used to
point at the mucisian who made the misstake.
A good yet harsh way to keep you band tight as clockwork.
