i think i hate it. i won't go into detail why, because
there's an endless list of stuff i do that makes me think
this. it's finally now making me be at ends rope with it.

do you know what kind of meds there are for this? i guess i
could do research.. but if anyone has any expeirence... some
advice would be nice.

What makes you think you have it?

I think it's pretty bad that as soon as you suspect you may
have this you go on the prowl for meds. They aren't always
the answer, you know.

it gets so bad sometimes that it makes me really depressed.
then i have the depression to deal with ontop of having
OCD.. then i think i need to be on anti-depressants... and i
really don't wanna be on meds.. especially those kinds.. so
i dont know what to do.

i know... but it gets really hopeless and hard, especially
when you try so hard to fight it.

it just seems like an easy fix.. especially when i think i
can't take it anymore.

hello again.

Yes, there are meds you can take for OCD. I don't have it,
but I take medication known as SSRI's, (selective serotonin
re-uptake inhibitors) and serotonin is a chemical in your
brain that regulates mood, but as it was explained to me,
namely obsession. Therefore, SSRI's work on things that deal
with that - OCD, depression, anxiety (that's what I take it
for). Examples of SSRI's are Lexapro (was on that), Zoloft
(now on that), and some others, i believe. see a
psychiatrist/chologist and ask about it, don't be afraid of
it if you think you really have a problem. I avoided
medication for a year or so (i'm really not into drugs at
all, so i felt it would be contradictory) until my anxiety
attacks started to become so horrendous in school. the stuff
does work, after you play around a bit with dosage and
types.

there might also be other meds specifically for OCD, but i
haven't heard about those. hope this helps!

To horse:

That was my exact thought process, too. Until you realize
that with some disorders (in my case) it can be a physical
problem, and when you have a physical problem, you need a
physical solution (somewhat, anyway.) Think cripple needs
crutches, but of course, this isn't as concrete. I know,
it's possible to talk yourself out of an attack, but not for
constantly cold hands or high heart rate. I'm in therapy,
too, and while that will work for OCD patients, I'm sure
it's a lot more difficult. Certain meds _correct_ problems
to bring a person up to the level other, "normal" people are
at, so to speak. This is all in theory, though, and in my
experience, I've been doing really well with my shit.

As always a trip to the Drs is the best idea....

OCD is pretty easily treated by most of the SSRI's Frag
mentions. There are some newer drugs on the market called
NESSAs that have far fewer side effects than SSRIs; I've
been on Zispin for a few months and it's helped me no-end
(with no side effects other than an increased appetite &
improved sleep, both of which were kinda welcome
anyway..)..

Don't be afraid of medications - they are there to help
you.

I don't mind the side effects of SSRI's, the nausea went
away pretty fast, and the loss of sex-interest is pretty
cool, it makes beating off less frequent so, well, nevermind
that...

Any weapon can be a tool if you learn to master it, no?
Most of the great people in history were fraught with OCD,
but you'll note that this impacted a lot of their important
work with the positive side of the coin, perfectionism.

People are too quick to cast certain things in a simplified
negative light. I don't mean you when I say 'people'; I'm
just saying the common/automatic association of things like
guilt, paranoia, is bad.

What I'm saying is that everything bad is good, er,
everything good is bad, er, and nothing has any basis. Umm
g'bye

I thought checking if the oven is on 400 times everytime you
want to leave the house is OCD...

What I meant is that they're related, or that perfectionism
is a positive derivation of OCD. I'm just the kind of
person that doesn't like limits/failings/etc.; if something
seems broken I won't admit defeat

i gave up drugs for cigarettes (hmm ironic)
but i am looking to give up cigarettes for a girl that i
met.

all i can say its an elevative process, go through what you
gotta go through, theres no skipping stages, so if you have
the feeling of depression, then live that phase out, you'll
be better off in life....but by all means do not, and i am
serious when i say this, DO NOT get stuck in this phase, it
is hell.

good luck finding your answers

i pick at the cuticles of my fingernails untill they bleed.

i think i could control it but i can't stand those little
pieces of skin hanging there so i yank em off and then it
bleeds.

then i gotta pick the damn scab off it cuz i can't stand
scabs on my fingers. so it bleeds some more.

my index finger cuticle is picked back to behind where the
nail grows from. i think i'll just pick at the little dry
bits and try not to make it bleed. then maybe it'll grow
back like normal.

It's funny. I can sometimes start to dislike people so bad
that I can't rest until I do them physical harm. Sort of
obsessively, anmd compulsively.

yeah, germs.

i tend to shy toward the opposite of Hypochondria. I put so
much faith in my immune system and my genetic diversity (i
am half japanese) that i feel impervious to infection and
disease.

so i guess i'm hyperchodriatic

hehe. yea i'm not really all paranoid about germs.. just
dirt, inperfections. i would die to be just energy... no
dust, no dirt.. no inperfections.. just energy... or a
perfectly square solid white block that can't be infected
with anything dirty or damaging.

When I was younger my big toe used to get horribly infected
(the nail used to grow down in under the skin).
That was horrible. Couldn't walk straight when it was as
worst, cause the nail would keep pushing in underneath my
skin and there my toe would be swollen and filled with
pus).
I went to the doctor a couple of times, but they did worse
than me when trying to fix it, so for a couple of years I
did all the operating myself (using a pair of nailscissors
and a tweezer)...

Now I am fine (my big toenails are almost normal now), but
them memories of pain and infection really makes me
appriciate my everyday-life not filled with physical pain.

but i wish you luck. the mind is a powerful thing, i'd

i've never actually been tested but I think I have ADD and
OCD.

my dad and sister both have ADD so there's strong reason for
me to believe.

I'm always starting new things and setting them aside, over
and over again.

Eventually though, I go insane and feel like I haven't done
anything, so I go back and finish everything. Even though I
know that this happends to me now, it's still a pain in the
ass. But all in all, I don't think it's a bad thing... OCD
can be regulated and controlled and used to ones advantage I
think.
