I don't think it's really that great... a few good tracks
but probably his weakest release, IMO.

actually it's a decent album so there are probably releases
that are weaker that I haven't heard, but it's the weakest
of what I've heard... =/

melodies...what happend Tom...? You bored ?

Anyone who knows the taste of rejection and the hatred it
breeds should cut him some slack. Stop taking life so
seriously, there are no good ways to die and bad things
exist. Get on with it.

I see plenty others who post random shite all the time here
but that's GOOD shite so that's ok… ugh.

I like it a lot. Though the classic songs (as much as I love
them) seem like a toss back to Aphex Twin's classical bits
on Drukqs.

"all he did was recycle the same synth

that's a bit narrow minded. are you serious? does imabic 9
poetry sound anything like you described? no. the album
consists of all his styles.

i love the album. go plastic was more noisy and daring, but
it's great the same.. I like how he's testing jazz.
stretching things out,..

I think an artist like pusher who releases at a fast rate
can get that often cause you get to hear the evolution in
full unlike other artists who releases at for example a two
or three year rate.
Did that make sense?

offline morge from United Kingdom on 2004-02-26 15:36 [#01090751]

it makes sense alright but it isn't necessarily true.
there was an interview in the NME about the time when go
plastic was released when tom was talking about how his
chronology of releases in completely bogus; he likened it to
a joystick on a plane and him steering it wherever.
*essex accent*
"cos...like i woz doing loadz of breakbeat shit when i woz
doing rotted.. but i chose not to release it
nawwatahmean????"

actually I think they are both fairly equal... whatever, I'm
tired of comparing his earlier stuff to ultravisitor... it's
still a decent release and I love his other stuff, so I only
got one thing to say:

Viva la Squarepusher!

u realise its just that one riff beign fucked around with

still a nice track though, but iambic 5 is king

but missing an edge.

People complaining of Tom's "recycling" of his old material
are, I believe, sort of misguided. Yeah, he does use similar
stuff to his old albums, but he's an individual musician
with his own sound and style and whatnot. He also does a lot
of new and original shit.

His bass work, if you haven't really noticed, is absolutely
phenomenal and he's really a beast on his instrument, and
probably deserves more credit for that than he gets.

i expect i will enjoy this release, haven't heard it yet,
but i've not really had any difficulty appreciating the vast
majority of his catalogue... that said.. i think it's silly
to act like monoid is lame for expressing his opinion on a
release that will be one of the largest (for this forum) of
2004...

I've given a few tracks a test drive, and I like what I
hear, but I'm not overly impressed. Everything else he's
done, other than DYKS, knocked me out upon first listen...
but then again, I'm a different person now, leaner and
meaner. I expect it will grow on me. New Iambic isn't as
good as old Iambic. Kind of like Nannou.

Iambic 9 Poetry is amazing. The way it builds and builds to
that orgasmic climax with a simple beautiful riff and
increadible drumming is wicked.

ultravisitor blows
or not
depending on your tastes

but

it is to be respected for what it is IMO :

one of the best blending of acoustic and electronic sounds
and production techniques
and he kills me with the way he restrain many elements
(volume/bass/fullnes/...)
on some songs it's amazing the space given to let the mind
wander altho the song is a neckbreaking breakbeat anthem
