linky

soo...this movie has been waited for since 1992 (I have the
nr. 2 issue of the comic from that year where they discuss
it), any opinions on the movie or who's likely to win?

As I recall, the movie script at that time ends with a
batallion of Space Marines gunning down both aliens and
predators with superior firepower after a colony was
ransacked, with a only a few survivors remaining to go
home...

is the trailer just the one that doesn't show any actual
movie footage, but just a camera scrolling over predator and
alien faces/heads/masks/whatever you want to call that shit.

da weeze: i think you read an old script. the one in
production now is helmed by paul anderson (resident evil,
event horizon, mortal kombat) and takes place on earth, thus
no space marines

dawn of the dead trailer made me interested in seeing it
when it comes out.

resident evil - sucked
mortal kombat - sucked
event horizon - decent

resident evil = sucked (in a way where that short-story plot
didn't really give the video-games a decent credit)
mortal kombat = sucked (but gave a ok representation of the
characters, which then got screwed by MK2+3)
event horizon = decent (and with some cruel hellish effects)

who will win? You can see in like 20 sequals...sign a
petition to have the director thrown off.

Resident Evil = * (Typical Hollywood horror schlock with
overproduced effect and thin video-game plotline)

Mortal Kombat:
#1: ** (Decent enough distraction)
#2: * (No need for a sequel though)
#3: * (The TV series was better at this point)

Event Horizon: **½ (Overlong, overdramatic sci-fi made
tolerable by Laurence Fishburne, neat effects and the
Michael Kamen/Orbital soundtrack)

well at jurassic punk you can right-click and download the
movies, and then watch them from your computer without
having to affect the browser. Still needs quicktime though

there's been a few AvP games, i always wanted the one for
the jag. i could probably pick up a copy off of ebay, but
it'd look like shit these days considering how much my
playstation 2 spoils me in that department. i used to love
the side scrolling one (ala Streets of Rage) they had in
arcades.

There are, in hollywood, two directors named "Paul
Anderson". One of them, is a great new talent, that hasn't
had any bad movies yet, and has crafted marvelous films such
as Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Hard Eight and Punch-Drunk Love.
He has incredible writing skills, which has already gave
him two Academy Award nominations. He also produces his own
movies.

The other is a really bad director, still named Paul
Anderson, that directed 6 movies that average at IMDB the
incredible (!) average of about 5.5 , making him one of the
worst directors in Hollywood at this moment. He has poor
use of his budget, so the movies feel cheap. All his
screenplays are laughable.

One of them is doing AvP, the other one isn't. That AvP
movie, has had a script that's been running around the net
for about 2-3 years, and has been often reviewed. It's very
bad, corny, and often ridicule. The entire movie shoot, is
also rumored to have had major budgetary problems.

Let's guess which "Paul Anderson" is doing the movie, and
how fucked up the end result will be...

ditto. not only am I a fan of both the alien and predator
universes, the AVP games, comic books, and novels are kick
ass as well. I'm sure the movie will blow, but who knows, it
may have some partially redeeming action.

as i read somewhere, the movie will happen in the present
and not in the future..lance will play weyland...the owner
of the big corporation, weyland-yutani...

anyways..setting the movie in the present is stupid..as
accorrding to the alien movies..the alien spiecies was
unknown ot humans...
basically a group of humans are sent to antarctica to
investigate some mysterious aztec-like pyramid they find
there..and aliens and predators show up...they also mess
with the concept that predators are drawn by heat and
conflict (both movies state that) and now it's set in a cold
area..with little conflict??

i have a feeling this movie will blow hard..which is sad,
cuz alien vs. predator could have been a good movie...

But in one comic book the Predators plant Alien eggs on a
planet colonised by humans and the eggs infest the peoples
cattle creatures roaming the land.
And voila! the Predators have brand new aliens to hunt for
sport hehe!

Maybe there will be something like that , infested penguins
and shit.

the temple, and then predators get interested...and then
carnage....

in the upcoming movie and alien egg has crashed into planet
earth from an asteroid or something millions of years ago.

it landed in antarctica and was frozen.

the movie is a prequel to the other alien films and has new
characters.

a team is sent to antarctica (or simillarly cold place) to
investigate and all hell breaks loose....

these are the rumours i've heard.

right, the set sounds like a real bad decision. antarctica
holds no values for hunting and hiding. and doesnt fit in
the pattern we know from the other movies.

i so badly hoped for a alien invasion in a alien movie.
or a story like the first AVP comic in a AVP movie, but
antarctica is ridiculuous and so is the idea of artefacts.

the idea of predator setting free aliens on any planet to
hunt them later on was brilliant in the first comic.
there were seperated storylines and it presented predators
as honorful warriors.
mankind settling on a random planet being a mere bystander
and one female evolving to become a hunter herself.
why couldnt they stick with that...

some crappy planet set in the jungle or desert could not be
costier than reeling in antarctica. man and if i see
artificial snowshit... ah god...

Heh, something from Robert Rodriguez:

How about "Predator 3", is it still in development?

"Oh, "Predators", yes we're the "Predator 3", it's call
"Predators". It was back when I was doing "Desperado". I
wrote "Desperado", it was going to get made like end of
September, and then "Last Action Hero" bombed, so they said
we're not making any movies for a year, like next year. So I
was like what am I going to do until then? So I took a
writing assignment, and one of the writing assignments that
was out was "Predator" sequel. "So I said, yes I'll write a
version of that. And it was just -- it was just crazy, it
was huge, it was a big, big, big budget. Because I didn't
have to direct it, I just had to write it. So I didn't
really think about the budget, I was just like wrote this,
wrote that. And it was really a cool script, it's floating
around somewhere. But it's huge, and will never be made, the
studio edited it and said there's no way we can make this,
this would cost -- even at that time -- 150 million, and no
women would ever go see this movie. It's too big, and
they've now combined alien versus "Predators". So they're
putting two franchises together, which is probably a smarter
way to go since both of those franchises are pretty much
dying down. It's the only way to really revitalize it at
all. But yes, the -- I don't think that'd ever make it, it
was just too expensive".

bugger, there goes any hopes of it being a decent movie, at
least it keeps his talentless ass away from the Silent Hill

i don't understand lance henriksen's casting and how it fits
into what we know from the other movies. is the scientist
that created bishop (lance's role in A3) some sort of
decendent of the company owner (lance's role in AvP) or are
they not going to try to make a connection?

i love lance, i just don't get this part of it.

the original company/corporation that sent out (and owned)
the Nostromo was calle Weyland-Yutani.

and the man in Alien 3 was indeed the creator of the android
Bishop - although I can't remember if he was called Weyland
too, but most probably he was.

so the Weyland in AvP will be an ancestor or even originator
of the Weyland-Yutani corporation.

my guess is they will somehow link the presence of the
aliens on Earth with LV-426, the planet the Nostromo visits,
so that the Weyland in AvP can make a mental note to visit
LV-426 if ever possible - hey presto, the mission that the
Nostromo will be on years later has been born.

pff.
