I just switched to mozilla. but it seemed slow as shit! so
i dled and installed firebird; which is fast as shit (it
seems like a mozilla lite), but i don't understand how to
install the plugins (flash in particular). I dl it with
firebird, but it installs on mozilla.

wtf?

anyhelp would be appreciated; as well as any other tips on
how to my my firebird exp. r0x0rz!

Its pretty tough installing the plug-ins, I wouldn't suggest
it.

I would suggest keeping Internet Explorer or whatever
browser you normally use, and just use Firebird for sites
that don't require plug ins.

I have no idea, all I know is that I tried to install them
following the directions

it seems to me that Mozilla Firebird is an unuserfriendly
piece of trash.

You should have a plugin folder in your Mozilla directory in
your program files directory. This contains DLLs and shit
that you can copy into your Firebird plugins folder. Then
everything will work.

It's not that Firebird isn't user friendly, it's just that
the folks who make plugins don't yet program their
installers to look for Firebird directories and install
there.

BTW I'm using Mozilla and it's plenty fast. Then again I
have a fairly fast computer.

I suggest you drop IE nonetheless.

i am satisfied with mozilla. to switch from ie to mozilla is
pretty uncomfortable, but when you get accustomed to, you
will love it. The only shit is that some pages are "made"
for IE and mo cannot show them fine or (from the websites i
am using only one) is not running with mozilla, only IE, so
don't uninstall this shit, keep it. as far as i know win xp
you cannot uninstall it because its part of xp.

you will love tab-browsing and the other features mozilla
has, in contrast to redmond bug explorer.

IE = crap
I've tried firebird and I don't really like it, so I'm stuck
with Opera, whom I love dearly

as if.
far as I know, they won't be updating IE anymore, until they
release their new OS Longhorn in which the browser will be
100% integrated with the operating system.

besides, microsoft releases updates several times a month,
to fix their leaking pile of shit-IE browser

I mainly use IE6, but I also have Avant Browser installed,
which is Ok, but I don't like the way it deals with multiple
windows. You might want to try it though. I'm all for a
browser that is 100% integrated into the OS, should be good.

Things talking for Firebird:

- Popup blocking
- tabs
- extensions
- customization
- smart search
- ligth-weightness

To install things like java you need to update the
registry... I'm not going to go find the link, but it's on
the firebird site, check the forums for more useful
information

Microsoft SUCKS! Isn't that enough reason not to use
Internut Explorer?!?
I mean, besides the fact that Microsoft routinely uses
spyware in almost every piece of software they make,
everything is super buggy and crashes all the time....Oh and
it SUCKS!
FUCK MICROSOFT.

windows media player 9 contains spyware. without you knowing
or asking it will send data from your computer to their
database informing them of certain statistics including
usage, which files you use etc

IE6 is shocking. apart from the fact this is an update of an
update of an update which makes the whole thing rather
unstable, when you think you are deleteing temporary files
and history, it ISN'T doing it. there are hidden files on
your computer (hidden meaning 'show all files' still won't
show them) which you have no idea about.

from just one of these files i would be able to tell you
every website you've ever visited and what you've typed in
your search engine.

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2004-01-23 05:55 [#01045505]
Points: 27795 Status: Regular

if you're familiar with dos, try finding these files because
you won't be able to find them in windows, but i can assure
you they do exist:

c:\windows\history\history.ie5\index.dat
c:\windows\tempor~1\content.ie5\index.dat

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2004-01-23 05:56 [#01045506]
Points: 27795 Status: Regular

btw even if you can find the directory they are stored in
even dos will not show it as existing if you do a directory
search.

no. did you copy it from me? :)

i continue to post this info all the time, if people aren't
interested and want hackers to know all details about them
its up to them really. at least i can say 'well i did warn
you'.

there's no excuse for using IE anymore apart from laziness.

I had some difficulties finding it under win2k.

if you can't find it using Explorer, just use and
alternative filebrowser, such as the ACDSee image viewer.

however, the real problem are those index.dat files; they
can't be edited or deleted, unless you use a hex editor and
physically edit each input in the file by hand. and mind
you, that file is LARGE in a hex editor, so good luck :)

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2004-01-23 06:17 [#01045533]

they can be deleted in dos, with a clean boot, i.e., no
windows loaded

sorry im not familiar with xp, only older versions of
windows

if you delete them, windows will automatically create a new
one on a reboot, but at least you've got rid of all the info

back to installing plug-ins with mozilla. couldnt be easier.
mormally if you need a plug-in you'll be prompted when you
need it. with flash, the screen will come up as "plug-in
needed" with a jigsaw pice sign. just click on that and
follow the steps. you don't even need to save the file to
disk, just choose 'open' and the rest will be done for you.

firebird is totally awesome. best web browser hands down.

the little integrated search bar is amazing. i use that
fvcker all the time. great idea. nothing like being able to
search imdb with no clicks.

here's a little help installing plug-ins.

i just have to re-iterated how much i can't stand IE. for
the myriad of reasons listed above and a few others, namely
it's downright shoddy handling of css. that archaic peice
of shit makes designing for the web so much more a pain in
the ass. and microsoft's refusal to fully support
transparent PNGs is really making everyones experience on
the web quite a bit less pretty than it could be.

peeps stuck using IE think it's a fine browser because
you've never seen the light. you're still surfing the web
in 1999.

come to the bright side. firebird makes the internet fun
again.

*crickets*

*steps down of soapbox*
*kicks rock*
*goes home*

i must say the rest was a big disappointment.
