large trailler

teaser website (with smaller version of trailler)

this game looks fuxX0ringly awesome.

but, does anyone here (*looks in titsworth courier's general
direction*) know if trent reznor did the sound for it?

i remember reading that he was, and watching an extensive
interview (it'd be nice if someone still had a link to that
page) in which he said he was.

but, everything i can find now says he dropped it.

that'd be a pretty big disappointment. but, meh... the game
still looks fucking badass.

peep the trailler.

game was to scare people as much as possible

This large trailer's taking ages, even with a 3mb
connection... probably worth the wait though.

it really is. but... from the looks of it, if you want to
play the game, be ready to upgrade your computer.

it streamed fine for me this morning, but i guess word is
getting around and their bandwidth is quickly drying up.

Heh, I'm at work on a P4 with decent spex but my home PC
wouldn't be able to run Doom 3 in a month of Sundays. I was
just curious to see the latest footage. Which I couldn't, as
once it finished downloading it came up with an error 10
seconds into it. Fucking bastard, I'll have a look when I
get home.

I'm on 10 mbit though (Studentnetwork)

gonna watch this.
I hope they incorporate some story in their games soon,
cause just like with porn, the brain needs to be a part of
everything.
So far DOOM has been nothing but shallow games...

yes you can.

control panel > display > settings tab > trouble
shooting tab
> slide 'hardware acceleration' bar all
the way to "none"

then, you should be able to do a screen grab.

I don't agree...
For me DOOM, unlike most other FPS was about running around
in really narrow corridors, feeling a bit claustrophobic...
It's a bit like that, but the roof / cieling is too high
imo... but I can't really make a statement until the game is
out and I've played it.

It's a bit like that [claustrofobic, like the previous
DOOM games], but the roof / cieling is too high [in DOOM
III] imo...

will it bring back some of the older dooms' baddies and
weapons, or will it be all new?

I'll never understand why people put down singleplay so
much.. I happen to enjoy scripted storylines instead of just
pointless fragfests with no deeper enjoyment possible. Don't
get me wrong, multiplayer can be fun for getting to "kill"
real people (bigget challenge versus fighting only computer
AI), but I never touch the multiplayer option until I've
finished the singleplayer part of any game.

looks like it'll have a lot of the old guys. the zombie
looking skinny fucks that shoot fireballs with their hands,
and the flying skulls both make appearances in the trailler.

it will feature some redone enemies (remeber the imps? and
you probably thought they were scary then, I know I
did), as well as new enemies. The same is true for the
weapons I think (I know some of them are returning, such as
the plasma rifle, shotguns, and BFG to say the least).

most FPS are really about shooting. Nothing else. I mean
most have some storyline, but mostly it sucks... Games like
Resident Evil/Silent Hill on the other hand... are awesome
(I haven't played the Silent Hill games yet! =/ )

far from...
It was great considering it was amazing when it came out and
had a nice atmosphere to it.
But since it lacks storyline it can never be "the best game
ever"...
It was good though, but I'm not sure the game only had a
good influence on the gamingmarket, since it showed
gamingcompanies they could create games with lots of
violence and no storylines that still sold lots of copies.

Marathon (1) is suppose to have one of the best storylines
in FPSes, I really wanna play that game! (though it was only
released for mac)

no! don't get me wrong!
It's just that if you enjoy playing singleplayer FPS, it's
weird you didn't get into Half-life which is one of the best
singleplayer FPSes ever... well the multiplayer-part (if you
include CS) must be one of the best aswell :)

yeah I was kind of thinking that myself. HL does have a
great storyline, but I liked System Shock 2's just as much.

actually, doom and wolfenstein 3d are probably the only
FPS's that i've ever really gotten into.

but, i really liked the multiplayer counterstrike. course,
that was only one summer when everybody left my college
campus, and i had the run of the best computer labs around.

playing counterstrike on a silicon graphics workstation is
very nice.

I can imagine that :)

well there are movies that mainly contains "shallow" action,
and people like them to.

I'm not saying games need to have a storyline - in fact most
of the (non-adventure/rpg) games I enjoy playing has very
little storyline (I play mostly old games -
Console/Amiga/PC).

But (e.g. in the genre of FPS) I'm sure a game will turn out
better if it's based on a story and then has a game created
around it. Rather than the opposite.

There are different types of games, some are more abstract
(without storylines) and some are more concrete (with
storylines). And FPS-games aren't very abstract, so they
have some kind of storyline, good, bad or quite unexistent
(e.g. quake/doom/etc).

Well I must add that I don't consider ID to be good
storytellers, but that I think they're great at creating
atmospheres and good gameplay (and of course making all the
coding behind everything).
I'm sure they get scripts sent to them, and I think they
should consider making a game out of someone elses script,
atleast try it once.
I'm not talking about making games (gameplay) "complex", I'm
not a fan of complex games myself, but a good storyline
doesn't mean the gameplay needs to be complex...

ok to answer a few questions: no, trent is not doing the
sound. he was originally, but hes been spending alot of time
on the new nin project, so all of his work for doom 3 has
been scrapped.

yes all/most of the baddies from the original doom game
should be returning, because it has been said by carmack
that doom 3 is actually going t ojust be a 3d updated remake
of the first game. o yeah and you dont need THAT much of a
beast of a system to run a game. i have the alpha that was
leaked a while ago and i run a athlon xp 1700+, 32 mg
geforce 2 gts and 512 mb ddr-ram and i can run it pretty
well with some tweaking of my settings, and thats with the
unoptimized version. sure, it may not look as terrific as it
should, but it saves me a good $500-600 in upgrades

YES!!!! this is my most anticipated game EVER!

we played the 3 level leak about a year ago, which was
utterly fantastic. sure, it only ran at 2 frames per
second, but it looked absolutely gorgeous, and i'm sure they
made the necessary tweaks to the graphics engine.

the bump-mapping is delicious, nothing like shooting a
zombie with a shotgun and watching each piece of flesh that
was hit by scatter shot tear off the body. absolutely
amazin.

deus ex

I'm not following here. Please enlighten me (I might be
missing out on something here - I am not really into new
games, since a couple of years).
Also I didn't mean that halflife had the officially best
storyline, just that it had been acknowledged for having a
really good one.
Have you played Marathon 1? it's story is supposed to be
very good.
