I remember the outcry about the "Yorkie- It's not for Girls" advertising campaign a while back... pretty clever as chocolate is usually marketed at women- so some aggressively marketed at men would get a large amount of the male custom. There was a lot of "what is this macho nonsense?" in the papers of the time. Seems they fail to realise the horribly sexist stereotyping of men as stupid oafs in most women targetting adverts is a lot worse as it implys that the non target market are stupid whereas the Yorkie campaign merely focused on the macho trucker image of the product and didn't say anything negative about women. |

i think it's kinda cool. a little cliche, a little dumb, but it's supposed to be that. people get so up in arms about this kind of stuff. it's so pc, or anti-pc, or whatever. like, it's totally encouraged for women to not be afraid to be 'female', and express their femininity... hell, like, ceri said even men are very often encouraged to get in touch with their feminine side. which i think is fine. but, then it's so very cool to be opposed to men acting like men. pshaw i say. pshaw. |
