the beautiful and highly acclaimed artwork from GAK was done
by the designers republic, it's obvious that you should turn
to them when you're out of original ideas yourself,

æ's anti ep is another original and brilliant example for
this

I think the drukqs sleeve photography was done by him, but
my brother has my copy so I can't check.

what sarcasm? :)
i bet that neither you nor i could come up with the idea of
making the whole thing purple!, and in addition to
that packing the cd version in a cardboard sleeve!

it's only a rumour but i heard they even make purple pants
now these days, i'm not sure whether this is just a sick
joke or if it's actually true though

actually the way GAK was designed was in the form of a serie
in which more artists were promoted. A line of unknown
artists (by then) with warps intention to just appreciate
the music instead of the artist reputation or the artwork.
That's why he released it as the unknown GAK.

alright, so he was unknown by then, but they released it in
that series 'cause they wanted people to appreciate it for
the music not for the artists' reputation?
i didn't think he had a reputation back then like i.e. rdj

alright enough of this

'Another member of the early Rephlex group links the label
with that other famous Cornish musical export, recent Fame
Academy winner Alex Parks. According to Marcus Scott, who
looks after Rephlex's promotional and distribution
operation, "her brother Dan Parks did the sleeves for
some early Aphex Twin releases like the On and Ventolin
singles and Ambient Works 2. He was a local DJ and part of
the Rephlex crew". Scott explains that in the early days he
would also occasionally don a teddy bear costume as part of
Aphex Twin's tour stage show. A small world indeed.'

i'm not fooling around, rdj was already a famous artist, so
it makes sense that if warp wanted the people to buy music
pure for the music, they did that artwork and an unknown
alias (GAK),

but tom j. wasn't a famous artist back then right? so they
might just as well have made a normal release of Port
Rhombus, instead of including him on that purple series,
since in this case there is no such thing as that people
would 'buy it because of the artists reputation instead of
for the actual music'

the simple difference is that tom j. wasn't a well known
musician (don't tell me: Chaos AD) back then and rdj already
did have a reputation, so for the latter it actually made
sense to include him in the series

:) either me or the world is going crazy :P

you don't understand my friend, because of a lack of a
squarepusher reputation that name was used for it. That was
the whole purpose for that layout, Nobody ('nobody'....)
knew tom back then. rdj was just fooling around, as warp
didn't even know it was him when the music was sent in. (as
i may believe what i have read)

i can't believe you're always this bloody minded! No
offense!

haha will you stop it, now you're being 'bloody minded' too
whatever that may be,
i know that that probably was the first time the SP alias
was used but that's not the point! *sigh* *sigh* it's
all about that "people shouldn't buy this cause it's an
artist with a good reputation but pure for the music",
tom j. didn't have a reputation so it wasn't necessary nor
did it make sense to include him in this special series,
they could've just released port rhombus and people would've
also bought it for the music 'cause he wasn't well known
back then

i know i'm getting in this too much, but i don't see that
it's so hard to understand

to just appreciate the music instead of the artist
