Bowie refuses honours!

Was on TV last night. Not that I give two shits about this
guy but what a dickhead. Apparently he refused a Knighthood
or something.

Yacking on about it being elitist and all that. What so
receiving music awards isn't the same thing. Get a life you
sad socialist! I think we should take away his British
passport what a gross insult!

I like bowie. He kind of has the Madonna syndrome where he
will find something hip and collaberate with it, but all and
all I like bowie.

These people get too full of themselves about time he ate
some hubble pie.

Well he lives in NY so quite frankly we don't see him here
anyways.

You know I was proud for old Mick Jagger when he received
his honours the other day. You can tell he was really
pleased, you know it was touching.

so british , so oldfashion

hyakusen,

Honours don't necessarily mean a lot in that sense. But
you're missing the point its like any accolade it is just a
way of acknowledging your achievements in life but he wants
to be a dickhead over it and start insulting a lot of
people. People will remember him refusing these honours.
Shit like that sticks.

hyakusen,

Thats it people want to smash up tradition but what are they
going to replace it with? Their rules and their style, thats
the bullshit of it. Its one elitism to another.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2003-12-22 14:59 [#01002021]
Points: 4227 Status: Addict

hyakusen,

Anyone can receive honours businessmen, charity workers, do
gooders, artists etc etc. You can get nominated by anyone,
you don't have to be someone with gigantic powers per se.
Its about life time achievement, fuck it it makes people
proud. Its good, its all part of the mix of motivation for
people in life. You know people give and they get something
back, its harmless. Sure people feel superior with it but
why shouldn't they? They earned it.

Anus,

You do something good you have the chance to receive an
honour. However I'm not going to bother explaining it 'cause
no offence Anus but I really don't think you have enough
experience to begin to understand how things work.

A lot people like sling pies but most of the time they don't
really know why they are slinging them in the first place.
Its just misguided rage and resentment.

TonyFish,

Monarchy is just a figurehead. Why the resentment, it can
only mean you feel small by comparison or uncomfortable with
them.

offline promo from United Kingdom on 2003-12-22 16:04 [#01002139]
Points: 4227 Status: Addict

nlogax,

Yes its unsound - think about what your saying first.
Traditions are only forms of ritual but accepted on a
grander scale so you remove some types of traditions then
others forms of protocal and ritual just simply take their
place.

offline TonyFish from the realm of our dreams on 2003-12-22 16:11 [#01002152]

haha oh man you really crack me up.
The british monarchy (and many others) is pointless. As you
say it's a figurehead. Shouldn't such an entity set
standards and a example to follow? Look at the windsors.
Call that an example? Christ!

Not to mention the amount of money wasted on these worthless
people. All the pomp and ceremony, the self-glorification.
This in a country with what some might describe as a third
world health system, an intolerably inefficient public
transport system and shitty pre-higher education (apart from
the odd 'showcase' school obviously). Enough. It's time we
got rid of them for good.

Bowie has always been a graceful and surprisingly humble
gentleman when he visits seattle. He has always been
personable. he chats to the audience and takes requests. And
of the 4 or 5 times i have seen him, he has never done the
arrogant rockstar thing. Maybe it's just because he likes
seattle, but he has never ever come accross as an asshole
when he visits here.

so if, in fact, he did "refuse the knighthood or something,"
i believe he probably had good reason, and was not trying to
be a dickhead. for him to call it elitist seems spot on to
me actually. frivolous titles do seem a bit pretentious.
